12 volt conversions

I like to remove the old generators and replace them with 10SI delco alternators. But sometimes it is hard to get a 10SI to fit in the place of the old generator just due to the size. Just wondered what are some other brand alternators that are smaller that some of you may have used? Are they harder to wire up? Don't need a high amperage one for most tractors. I plan to do an alternator on the CA Allis I am repairing. It looks like the steering arm may not allow for a 10SI. Thanks

This doesn't fit your practice, but with my C, I installed a 12V 2 brush generator for a D series, and added a voltage regulator. It worked well for me.

The one on my Kubota B7200 is about the size of a softball. I have no idea if it has an internal regulator, or how expensive they are.

Little Japanese alternators such as Nippondenso connect just like a Delco, and are much more compact.

As an example, this little guy puts out 40 Amps, more than enough for old tractor upgrades.

Both of the conversions I did years ago. American Motors cars from the 70s on the straight 6 engines. They had a very compact Motorola altinator. Think it was 35 amp. Fits right under the hood of a 300U and 450. Just make up a bracket to fit. Even the pulleys worked. About the size of the larger Haggen Das container. Just needed to add an idiot light on the dash and it worked like a charm.

I have one of these works well.
