Bruceburgers

This is for Centash and any one who lives along the east shore of Lake Huron. We were out for a drive with friends one afternoon and had decided to drive up the shoreline to Port Elgin and back. We stopped at the Bruce Inn on mainstreet Kincardin for lunch. Now I am a big eater so my eyes scanned the menu until I came to "Bruceburger" Well it sounded good a one pound burger with all the garnishes complete with coleslaw and fries. I was sure I could handle that much to the amusement of our friends. Well the food arrived and this burger was about 10" across and about 4" thick ! Well , I went at it and ate and ate and ate...finally had to give up , I had eaten barely more that a half along with the fries and slaw. The waitress cheerfully packaged the remains in a box to take home ! So no more "Bruceburgers" unless sharing with your spouse and even then you will be full. The Bruce Inn has a rear patio that overlooks Lake Huron , scenic and beautiful and a wonderful place to dine on a warm summer day !

Sounds like a good place to relax and grab a bite to eat. Your story reminds me of the Big Texan Steak Ranch in Texas. We stopped in during a road trip years ago and they had a special offer:

The Big Texan is best known for its 72 ounce (4.5 pounds or 2.04 kg) steak, nicknamed "The Texas King." The steak is free to anyone who, in one hour or less, can eat the entire meal, consisting of the steak itself, a bread roll with butter, a baked potato, shrimp cocktail, and a salad; otherwise, the meal costs $72.[3] Those who have successfully consumed the Texas King meal have their names recorded and posted at the restaurant. As of February 2018, over 9,500 people out of about 62,000 have accomplished this feat.

On display was the full meal and I have to say one hour is NOT a generous amount of time to eat all of that!

We had a local restaurant a few years ago that had a one pound "Husker Burger" on the menu, similar to what you describe as a Bruceburger.

Anyone who ate an entire one in one sitting got their name engraved on a plaque on the wall by the cashier. There were actually a few names on the plaque.

We used to have a little restaurant called The Shack here in Swanton. They had a 1 lb burger called the Mess. They also had a super sized version. I can't remember which one this was, but you get the idea. Just about anything you could imagine on it. Probably not quite as big as a Bruceburger, but you didnt leave hungry.

The high school I attended and my children attended used to offer a one pound Titan Burger at the concession stand. Usually divided into quarters for sharing, we often would dare the varsity players of the opposing teams to try one by themselves, figuring the extra mass might slow them down a step or two. We have had to stop selling them since we could not get a bakery to supply the buns, we just couldn't provide a consistent demand.

There used to be a burger joint in East Texas that had a 5 lb. burger. If you could eat the whole thing, it was free.

Can't remember if they shut down for some reason or stopped offering that deal, but there was one guy who would regularly go there and get a free meal.

Am almost thinking this place was on a version of Texas Country Reporter, but can't remember.

There are also places that have other giant foods, like huge pizza's, chicken fried steaks, monster sandwiches, etc. I used to could eat pretty good, but never did try for any free meals. There was, however, a small fish place that had all-U-can-eat popcorn shrimp. Many a time they lost money on me! *lol*

Bear Creek steakhouse in Ohio had a large steak if you could eat it all it was free. I think it burnt down many years ago. Had ties hanging from the ceiling too. If you came in wearing one it got cut off and hung up.

I think there is a cafe down south somewhere called the Cardiac Cafe or the Heart Attack Cafe that specializes in big, greasy burgers. Have you ever noticed that the guys that win the hot dog eating contests (forget the brand name but a US outfit) are skinny guys, quite ofen Asians that weight about 120 pounds. Must be some reason for that, they're hungry and have lots of room inside I guess.

Our little province of PEI celebrates ginormous burgers all month of April with a burger love contest. Participating restaurants design their own version and the burger with the most votes wins.

Shrimp would be the best part of the meal,I hit Red Lobster a couple times every year when they offer the Endless Shrimp deal I definitely get my money's worth.

(quoted from post at 12:02:54 02/01/19) RedMF40 I couldn?t do it just because of the shrimp
I hate shrimp

Hahaha shrimp is about the only think I could eat! I have a medical issue related to swallowing--need to eat very slowly. Give me all day and I couldn't finish that off.

Yes, place was in Amarillo, and from what I recall it was good. I think I had some kind of smoked sausage platter. I stood and gazed in awe at the big meal display under lights--must have been in a refrigerated case. The names of people who'd accomplished the feat were somewhere nearby, with their times listed.

We were on a backroads tour of Texas, hitting towns like Lubbock, Odessa, Amarillo and the tiny town of Turkey--birthplace of Bob Wills, innovator of Texas Swing genre of music. Bringing home a farm truck which--miracle of miracles--made the drive all the way back to Maryland. 1965 F100 Custom Cab. Had maybe 35K miles on it.

(quoted from post at 13:41:55 02/01/19) Come out my way I'll take you to the Habachi Grill huge selection of shrimp, other seafood and I know your favorite Sushi.(LOL)

Sure, I'll look you up when I'm down there. Looks like quite a few on this site know each other in real life. I'm in Carroll Co, MD--you anywhere near Front Royal entrance to Skyline Drive? I go there on occasion to get a look at a black bear if they're up and about.

(quoted from post at 15:09:57 02/01/19) I'm about 60 miles South of Front Royal off US 29.

Ok, bit of a drive! But if you're ever in Frederick area give a shout.

So if I come see YOU am I going to be where I might see a BEAR? You and I are at the opposite end of the spectrum of this board but I sure still believe I would love to meet you and just sit down and have a long conversation. I love some of your ways.

Right many bear around saw three this year on deer stands up on the mountain,I don't like bear meat so the bears are safe around me if they stay away from the livestock.Only about 10 miles straight across to the Shenandoah National Park.Caught a cub a couple years ago in a large coyote live trap I was trapping coons with, had a nervous couple minutes letting him out the trap and hoping he didn't hollar for the old sow.BTW I got lots of friends I argue politics with(LOL)

Some say we have them about 120 miles East of us but I think more like 200 or so . Have plenty of ever thing else, now in the last two years even have the dang Armadillo. Few bob cats but nothing larger in the cat family. I don,t want to argue politics , could care less, what happens . I want to talk GMO/Organic farming.. LOL

I think I was out your way a few years ago a couple of us went to see a guy a little West of Jackson TN about some Kiko goats.Stopped at a small diner in Jackson to eat breakfast.
