Gummy beans

I took off some real gummy beans today. Not sure of the moisture but it ain't good. My question is how wet will the elevator take them? It's been heck to get harvest in and today was the first day we could run and it looks like tomorrow will be the only day it's won't rain or snow and I'd like to get the rest off but I'm worried nobody will take them.

Depends on the buyer, there is no set limit.

What they like to do is blend wet and dry beans, if the beans are real wet or if they haven?t gotten many dry beans they might have a lower limit.

When we had a terrible wet fall like that they had to stop taking corn and dry the beans; then they had no limit because the drier was running the beans through.

Really depends on your local buyer. Can be different the next place down the road....

This year they will be docking HARD for anything wrong. The terminals are getting barges rejected at the export end so they are being fussy on beans not being in condition. They usually can blend a few wet/damaged beans with no fear of the entire barge being rejected. That is not the case this year.

Also this is very elevator specific. So call them before trying to deliver any wet/damaged beans this year.

don't know where you are but it seems the Bio refineries will often take wet of off spec commodities without as severe of a dockage

Been drying beans here, slow process. Still plenty out around here, with 6-8 inches of snow.

Better call your area elevators as they will be the only ones that can give you an answer.

Was near impossible to get anything off dry around here this year.
I got to talking to a neighbor who had combined a field of peas, when I asked him if they were dry enough his reply was;

"Well the went ping when they hit the windshield".

Just something to remember,the barge line have already started to shut down north of St Louis on the Mississippi. They won t take a chance of getting iced in.

The beans tested at 28%. Shoot. Looks like I'll be trying to roast em and feed what's on the wagons. What nightmare this years been. Gonna be building more fence next year. Farming sucks this year.
