Thinking about what JD said

I am getting used to the modern tractors, the more I work, the more I grab one of the newer ones. I like the live PTO's, the live hydraulics, the ROPS and the other features. I put my seat belt on when driving on the road, or mowing ditches. I do not feel as safe on the older ones, they are becoming my parade tractors and sitting more.

I?m really bad about seat belts. I always use them in the car but I have never once put one on in a tractor. I know that?s not a good thing. I sound like my father when we were trying to get them to use seatbelts- he wasn?t about to put one on if he was just going to get out when he got to the other pasture five miles away. I should be wearing one in a tractor when I am on a steep slope baling or something, but I never think of it as I get in and out. I know every cab tractor has one. Maybe I ought to look at those.

David: MY JD 5210 is the newest tractor I own and also one of the smallest. It has a roll bar and seat belts. I have the tires set out and front/rear weights. I do all the steep pasture mowing with it. It will slide sideways before it tips but that can make you flip too. I wear the seat belt and watch where I go. Low gear if it is real steep too.

That little tractor gets used every single day by someone. It is so easy to get on and off. Handles really well to. I bet 90% of the machinery that is not too big gets put inside with it. Backing wagons in is super easy with it.

That is about the size of the 47 HP McCormick that I have been using a lot, it is my neighbors, he like my bigger stuff and I like that.

Funny thing is its usually folks that are flat landers that mostly get killed on turnovers, guess people that run on hill and mountain land get used to it.Also I'd say way over half the people
I've known of that got killed on tractors were on 2 cylinder JD tractors and usually not on a steep hill.Guy not far from me turned a 60 JD over in his driveway and it killed him.

There are not many old tractors used in this area but it is amazing how many new ones have their ROPS removed or folded down. I've never seen an operator wearing a seat belt even on the highway.
