Coca-Cola again

The last thread is getting kind of long so I thought I'd share this in a new one. Do you know the term Classic Coke is different depending on where you are in the world. Last I knew classic Coke in Canada is the new Coke recipe that failed here in the US in the 80's. We made some once in our plant here in NY and had to have different ingredients. Classic Coke in some countries isn't even drinkable by people used to it in this country. At one time there were 17 classic Coke recipes for different areas of the world. I don't know how many they have now. Also for you diet drinkers, Coke Zero is the true diet version of Classic Coke. The product labeled as diet Coke never had a sugar equivalent.

Since it is snowing up here today, I have lots of time for discussions on Coca Cola and all sorts of other stuff. Diet Coke .... do you remember TAB (made by Coca Cola Co)? Here's some info for yad that you can use at your next discussion around the water cooler (or the soda pop cooler) .....

Tab (stylized as TaB) is a diet cola soft drink produced by The Coca-Cola Company, introduced in 1963. Coca-Cola's first diet drink. Tab was notably popular throughout the 1960s and 1970s, and several variations were made, including a number of fruit-flavored, root beer, and ginger ale versions. Caffeine-free and clear variations were released in the late-1980s and early-1990s.

Following studies in the early 1970s that linked saccharin, Tab's main sweetener, with bladder cancer in rats, the United States Congress mandated warning labels on products containing the sweetener. The label requirement was later repealed when no evidence was found linking saccharin with cancer in humans.

Tab's popularity declined after the Coca-Cola company's introduction of Diet Coke in 1982, though it remained the best-selling diet soda of that year. Coca-Cola continues to produce Tab in the United States, though in considerably smaller quantities than its more popular mainstay beverages, such as Coca-Cola and Diet Coke. According to the company, three million cases of Tab were made in 2011, and the beverage has retained a cult following over the years. In 2006, a Tab-branded energy drink was released, though it utilizes a different formula from the standard cola.

Speaking of Coca-Cola I had some old wrenches that are probably 75 years old from my Dad. They
were in an old metal box and in a shed for probably 35 years. Anyway I put a new shop in the barn
(took the haymow floor out and added a large work bench, etc). Well my 10 year old grand son and I
were going through these old tools and they were completely rusted bad I debated about sending them
to recycle or saving them. I got 4 liters of Coke put the wrenches in a large pan and covered them
with coke. Left them there for 3 weeks. The coke got really crappy, drained the coke off, pressure
washed the wrenches and you can't believed how they cleaned up. It's easy to read the sizes, they
are not shiny but they are clean.

One of the primary ingredients in any cola is phosphoric acid - same acid we all buy as a rust killer before painting.

Truck drivers have to have a haz-mat license to haul stuff into the cola plants, then they bottle it up and we drink it. If the driver had a wreck and spilled some in the road ditch they would lock him up and throw away the key.
