Security camera question

Well, the wife and I went out and purchased a "Nest" outdoor camera. It's suppose to notify my cell phone when it detects activity. Brought
it home and it takes more upload speed than I have and even says in the directions "...may not work with DSL". Okay, Looks like it will not
work. Not only do I have DSL, I have sl-oow DSL. Any ideas what I could use??

DSL is too slow for camera's as you found out.
Even the fastest dsl don't work well.

You will have to find another provider with high speed internet.
Or sell the camera and but one that uses 4g cell service.

We have several and work very well.
The cell plans are not to pricey imo.
I like the spypoint cameras.

Good luck

I have to disagree with the claims cameras will not work with DSL, I have an 8 camera security system on DSL at my cabin, it works fine. I do not know about the NEST systems as i have no experiance with them. My system is made by Defender, it detects motion and sends me pictures and I have a remote app on my phone I can login any time and monitor all my cameras live.

Have you tried setting it up? It may work, may not be snappy, but should at least be able to get a snapshot from it.

I thank you all for your responses. The wife read the instructions and 'poo-pooed' the idea. I figured I could find some amazing answers on
this board and I thank each one of you.

For all the old guys on here it makes me laugh when there is all the carping about DSL. Don't any of you remember taking the phone hand set off the cradle and sticking it in the actual MoDem (modulator/demoduletor), and getting excited when they upgraded you from 300 baud (BITS per second) to 1200 Baud? Try installing a network switch to parcel out things more evenly. At my next to last workplace they used DSL and we had 6 online sales guys, plus me in the tractor parts end, plus the support people all on the internet at the same time and didn't have problems.

Leo, I have thought about installing one of those cameras but think the deer and critters might keep me up all night with alerts. Are you able to adjust it so that only big intruders like a car or person sends an alert and a picture?

Pleas excuse my lack of understanding of the details of using a home camera security system.

Had one of each, then an IBM 5150 (PC) then an IBM 5170 (AT). Sometimes people forget how far and how fast things have improved.
