In my town we have an Oreilly, Autozone, and and old school Carquest. Carquest is good but the staff acts as though I was taking up their time. I haven't bought from Autozone since they laughed and said I should junk the car I was working on. Never a problem with Oreilly. During our trip out west last year it was very helpful they were nationwide. I kept losing the fan belt on my F250. They warrantied it twice. Then I found the trouble.

OReilleys are very good,, they stock and have greater options for parts than any other parts store,,they are like NAPA "use to be"..the ones around here are great to deal with,,I will never walk into another NAPA store again....they are on the way out..

I have used O'Reilly's for the past 38 years and they have been good. I did have o sort of train a few of the people who worked there when it come to tractor parts. When I moved here we had a NAPA and O'Reilly's and I used NAPA more but then NAPA closed so it was O'Reilly's only till auto clone came in and auto clone is worthless

The parts counter staff make all the difference in any store,,,and Our local John Deere Mega dealer had better get that sorted out soon.....Their parts service is the Laughing stock of the area...

Don't have O'Reilly's here. Probably would not have room for what is already here if they came so somebody would have to go. Funny thing is people keep saying that DIY is in decline but I can't afford to go to a shop. I just spent yesterday changing out rear bumper shell on my 2006 Siverado and today I am sore for it even though it was not a bad job.

Most of the parts in the Car part stores are China made,,cheap but less than good,,but for the last few years that is all we can do with,,,I would gladly pay more for a "good American made" part...and I will 'Not Tolerate" a smart azz counter person,,I don't care what Gender they are...

I'll agree- my local JD Parts guys are top notch, Gary will even drop stuff off at my place, as he lives a couple miles away.

You can't always judge a book by its cover, either. The young lady at our OAP is one of the most helpful, as is the young minority gentleman. I don't get much tractor stuff there, though.

A good parts person will give you the choice of cheap or the good stuff. When I'm buying bearings and other hard parts like that, the guys at Parts Plus give me the choice anyway. I think most of them have the good stuff, but just go for the cheap stuff when left to their own devices.

Most of the time you have a choice of 2 or 3 different brands and most of what O'Reilly's sells have a life time warranty on them. One thing that helps me a lot if I have a dealers account and have had for close to 30 years. Saves $$ and also I do not have to have a receipt to return parts. Also in my case help that the manager of the store is a friend who I throw green beans at once In a while

I live within 2 miles of 5 different auto parts stores. Auto Zone, Napa, Oreilly's and two independents.
Well, there was 5.
Oreilly's moved in for a year or two. Then built a brand new building a couple of blocks away and moved in there.
Auto Zone closed about a year later. Now it's the Glory Gospel Church. I don't think they sell auto parts tho.
I still prefer Napa. If they don't have it in the store they have a giant warehouse about 15 miles away and will have it for you that afternoon.

I use OReilleys quite a bit, just because they are closest.

They do OK, but they are what they are, counter people punching a keyboard.

Seems they have a lot of turnover, never see the same employee there for long.

guys on here seem to like orielleys. I don't think I have yet to buy anything from them as the times I have called and looked on line their prices were higher than the others stores in my area.
I have been going back to NAPA more lately as their prices seem to be lower than autozone and advanced. If I have time to wait or do a planned repair I buy on line as that is far better prices !

We have an O'Reilly's, an Auto Zone, and an Advance Auto in the town near where I live. I haven't seen any difference among the three. O'Reilly's is the closest of the three, so I always start there. As has been said, the Counter person is what makes the difference, and I haven't found any differences among the three.

I prefer Rockauto.com They save me the trip to town, no less than 20 miles round trip, deliver to the front door, and are cheaper.
20 miles away is o'really and NAPA. 30 miles the other direction is every one else.

I use O'Reilly's before Autozone, just because I know the manager real well. As far as the counter help, they seem to have a huge turnover and they only know as much as the computer in front of them.
My advice is to look the part online first and know exactly what you want before you go into the store. RockAuto is actually my go-to store.

o'reilly's claim to have farm stuff, but finding someone behind the counter to look for it is a disaster. Last spring I asked for engine oil filters for an ih 1066 and they looked for twenty minutes couldn't find them in their system another customer came in and they waited on him so I left. Auto Zone has no farm parts even spark plugs.

We have Napa,Weavers, and Oreillys all within a couple of blocks of each other.Use to have Carquest but they were a pain for service.Having delt with them all they are only as good as the people behind the counter.Oreillys have good warranty but most counter persons there are are not much for farm filters ect.Napa I use the most because I have known them for 35 years.I use Weavers once in awhile when I need a tractor radiator repaired.Scott

It comes down t9 the people behind the counter on these auto and maybe farm supply stores.

Auto Zone in town is stuff you hang on the car mirror, the fellas know what a windshield wiper is and that?s about it.

Napa used to be an excellent farm supply store, it the kids got younger and now it?s ok if you already know what you need, and can look over what they bring you carefully. One day I ordered 2 bearings, got home and he had 2 different, and neither one was exactly right...... they have good tools and stuff tho, and mean well. But the old parts guys are gone.

OReilleys is similar to Auto Zone, nice folk but they know car interiors, they could get farm items but they just don?t know much t is a hassle.

Auto Value is the farm place left in town, they have a machine shop in back, and a fella dedicated to hoses and alternators and starters who knows his stuff. I walked in with an old fuel pump off a Wisconsin engine in a bucket a few years ago, the fella looked in the bucket and said oh I?m sorry.... well I knew it was a long shot but I had to go somewhere to try to track something down.... he continues, I just sold the one in stock this morning, we are getting another in by 10:00 tomorrow I hope that ok? Heck they stock one? And he didn?t have to look at any numbers he knew what I had?

But, -any- of those stores could supply the same stuff. They could all, access the same catalogs and wholesale parts. It comes down to the people behind the counter. So it will depend who management hires, and what market they try to supply.

I have the best Napa in town few years back my wife's truck batt. went dead I called Napa and they went out and jumped the battery then she went back to the store where they put a new batt in . I was very grateful

theres 2 locations 3 miles apart that have a autozone and oreillys directly across the street from each other in my local shopping district

Advance Auto Part is my normal. I would call them and check the price and then call O'Reilly.
O'Reilly was always a little bit higher but they would match the competition. I tried them once and they called the competition for the price and gave me the same price. I decided I wasn't going to play that game. I don't go there unless Advance doesn't have the part. If Advance doesn't have the part it usually means that neither of them stock the part. I think that Advance Auto and Auto Zone merged sometime in the last year. If I go to one town O'Reilly is a little bit closer and the other town Advance is a little closer. These stores are 25 to 30 miles away. We have 4 small town Napa stores 6, 9 10 and 16 miles away. Three are owned by the the same company. Evidently the fourth guy doesn't want to rile the guy with 3 stores. They are all too high priced.

H usually only buy from them if I am in dire need and no reason to go to bigger towns.

In our little town O'Reilys bought the NAPA building, NAPA went down the street and bought out the Carquest store and went under and closed. Now there is only O'Reillys. I order most parts from Rock Auto. I buy batteries locally because of shipping. I did not have good luck with NAPA batteries. I have bought 2 from O'Reillys lately, the prices seem good and they have a good warrenty so we shall see.

Terre Haute has two O'Reilly's, 3 zones, 2 NAPA, 1 Advance.
O'Reilly's is the only place in town that will turn rotors. All the rest only want to sell new ones.

O'Reilly's would give you a $10 store credit for old car batteries. The zone followed O's lead.

None want mower batteries except for a core.

I see very little difference in my auto stores except for location.

I stopped at Orielys to pick up a distributor cap for my GMC pickup and the counter dude asked if it was a diesel I walked out.

All parts stores depend on the help. A lot of these young people don't seem to have an idea on some stuff. Just hard to find a good clerk that has the knowledge. Our Napa store use to be real good but as with all those stores it seems they change personnel a lot. I try to buy most of my stuff off the net. takes a little longer but is cheaper if you know what you want. Good old parts stores are a thing of the past.

Advance NOW owns Carquest not Auto Zone.

They all sale the same garbage I spec they all carry some OEM parts. I buy 40% of my parts from the dealer most of the time the dealer is cheaper  It would surprise you how competitive a dealer is if you have a state tax exempt # account... I can set here and order parts from dealers from 100 miles away on most all makes it will be here today no later than tomorrow. Most all OEM dealers I can go online and look at the same parts breakdown the parts man is looking at. Dealers like to eat also they are after it all good are bad they are...

Repairlink.com

I remember when dealers placed there orders on Wednesday if you called on a Thursday you had to wait a week are more for the part.

I remember when NAPA started call your order in by 4 PM it will be here in the morning I thought it could not get any better than that. There stocking dealer offers could not be beat 25% off.

Advance has their act together I spec the others do also There is not much I can not get today. I can go online and find were its at what surprise me the most the closer out of town it is the longer it takes for me to get it... That has to do with me just being out of that circle their routs run in that area...

Our old Napa store chucked it chucked so bad Napa took his franchise and gave it to another owner a big player he has a 10 million dollar inventory 35 stores his prices beat everybody. They stock a bunch of OEM parts at a good price... The bad Napa is still stuck in the stone age getting parts not in stock takes a day are two...

The big parts stores are killing it $$$

Toyota and Honda dealers are the worst to ream you a new'N it pays to shop dealers from out of your town most small town dealers sale at retail and give a fake mark up retail price to make you feel like you are getting a wholesale deal...

I went into my local NAPA store Monday morning, and they ordered me two Dodge brake calipers, for my old 75 farm truck. I was getting anxious to get the truck going, so I called napa, today, and was told that my calipers were coming from philidephia, and would have to wait a couple more days. I wonder if the covered wagon, has left Penn, for Washington state yet?

Hate to say it but the best parts guys here are in the local owned parts house. No affiliation with anybody, just them. They both are good and can in some cases tell you what you need before they look it up.
All the box stores have bumped their heads to many times.

Since you put up a post about NAPA, I'll tell you an experience I had with NAPA about 3-4 years ago.
My brother has a Ford F600 grain truck that he uses to get to the off-beaten areas of his farm that his semi-truck can't reach. The truck needed new brakes, and since it was the off-season, we could take our time. We started ordering brake parts for it from NAPA, piece by piece. Every part that we started ordering was met with the NAPA counter man saying: "Our supply system shows that we only have ONE of these pieces in inventory and it's in a warehouse in TimBuckTwo". This warehouse, wherever it was, was easily 500 miles away, cost about $20 in shipping charges and was a week away. We finally saw the writing on the wall and noticed that they were making all of their profit on the bogus shipping charges.
We finished out our brake purchases by going to O'Reilly's. Prices were cheaper, parts were there overnight and there were no added-on shipping charges. The local NAPA store lost a good customer, or at least my brother now calls around and gets a price check instead of just telling NAPA that they need to order it.

Years ago had a U-Joint go out on a IH grinder-mixer. Went to the IH dealer, The kid said never seen any equipment with a U-Joint that large. Go to Napa heard the same story. Go to our locally owned auto parts store. The guy looks at what I had and goes and grabs one off the shelf never looked in a book. Been doing business there ever since.

One of the happiest days in the past 5 years was the day O'reillys opened up a few miles from me. Before, I had to go about 17 miles to the nearest Napa, and the nearest other generic auto parts were 14 miles in the other direction. grrrrrrr.

I order from a few different places, including rockauto dot com but the O'reillys is a bonus for me. And yes, they have trouble keeping GOOD counter help, but for the hourly wages, I can't expect veterans who know what a set of points are every time I walk in. At least they will help with what they can help with.

My only other complaint, and it's not related to the retailer is that I hate it when parts aren't marked with the country of origin. I bought an AC line with the evap tube in it and it lasted about a month. Found out it was made in China when I took it back. STILL had to evacuate the system, refill it, and test all because of crap Chinese part.

I detest them. Never believe them when they read a code on your car and recommend parts. They hire guys and gals that haven't got a clew about vehicle repairs or the proper parts to repair them. Our NAPA store has been there over 60 years, the guys running it are the 4th generation owners. If they haven't got it, they will have it in the AM .

O'Reilly bought out the local Murray's chain a few years back. Murray's wasn't great, but they were better than O'Reilly. That said, O'Reilly is probably the best store within a short drive of me. NAPA closed up a few years ago; they had a nice store but short hours and a poor location. So my choices are O'Reilly, AutoZone and Advance. If I want to get name-brand parts (e.g. Wagner brake pads) I go to O'Reilly. But for anything else, I often go to AutoZone just because it's a mile closer and the staff is helpful. I did have to explain what "ignition points" are to a (female) AutoZone employee. Of course they didn't have any in stock, but neither did O'Reilly or Advance.

This. It doesn't matter what name is over the door, it's who is behind the counter that makes the difference.
