Big thanks to Keith Smith

Keith sent me some SS screen. I soldered it to the end of a 1 1/4 brass drain pipe. It Fits inside the gas tank on my Kawasaki mule. I'll keep it and my gas can spout inside a zip lock when not in use.

If I can find a metal a 1 1/4 drain pipe with a flange instead of threaded end, I'll make another one that I can keep inside Mule's gas tank. It should fit under the gas cap.

I have no idea where the tiny particles came from my new filter caught. The gas I use in the mule comes from Marathon. All my gas cans have original gas caps. I take extra care to keep crap out of my gas cans. Other things I gas up I can use a metal funnel with a built in screen. Trying to hold a funnel with one hand and a gas can with the other is extremely difficult to do on the mule.

So a Big thanks to Keith Smith for the SS screen.

So how many of you make things you can't buy?

Had similar issue on my Kubota RTV 900. Found the diesel fuel tank had expanded over the years and the fuel cap was not sealing correctly. Allowed enough dirt to get in that it clogged the fuel system. Shop had to take the entire fuel system apart clean it all out and replace the tank and cap. No more problems.

Not saying this is what you problem is but something to check on.

I bought my mule at the end of 2012. It has a little over 600 hrs on it. Twice
now I've drained the tank, removed the fuel pump, cleaned the filter on the end
of pump and wiped out crap in gas tank.

I'm hoping to make a screen that I can leave in tank all the time. I have 4 gas
powered devices that came with built in screens and they catch a lot of crap. I
think some of the crap may fall off my clothes or hands. Not sure.

Hello

I do. Here is one I did many moons ago, one of my gas cans. They all got one. Stainless mesh!

If you don't have enough of that screen left ., I think I can find another piece without holes (not as big as that one) I can send ya. Like I said, that screen is designed to keep the smallest particles out of finished potato product, from our potato processing plants.
I use it to replace the screens in the sediment bowls on my tractors..

Sure glad someone else got some use out of it..

Good chance it is from the tanks at the gas station. Wonder if they still have metal ones ? I once got an old tank to use for a storage building. Hauled a whole wheel barrow full of rust dust and all sorts of junk including a small radio out of it.

Mike,
You may have nailed it, rusty tanks. Many times when I've been gassing up a tanker is unloading fuel stirring up crap.

My kawasaki 4010 mule is fuel injected. The fuel pressure is 40+ psi. No fuel filter between pump and injectors. Pump is around $700 and injectors are $150 each.

I finally got the two throttle plates adjusted. I'm convinced they were never properly adjusted at factory.

I've cleaned the my fuel tank twice and can't figure out where all the crap has come from that's why I made the screen filter. Going to make a better filter when I find a 1.25 inch pipe with a flange. I think I can leave that in mule all the time.

Any way to put an in line filter in there ? You could get a high pressure one from a car and use high pressure hose and clamps and reroute it ?
Any local exhaust shops that can bend pipe ? Should not be an issue for them to make one up and flare the end.
