O.T. update on surgery. Also on prayer request. Long

First I want to thank all the people who responded to my prayer request. What a
bunch of great people you are. And I thank the people that did not respond as there was nothing else to say that wasn't already said, but said a prayer anyway. I usually do that. It was a little overwhelming.
Here is some praise for the staff I encountered at Iowa Methodist. Everyone of them were kind caring and competent. Too often they go without the justified credit due to them. And everyone should remember that (using football terms) it takes everyone from the towel boys, janitors, and waterboys to support the big name players. It is the same for every successful team. Especially in a hospital.
I guess they started cutting to get to all the broken pieces that Humpty Dumpty provided around 2 p.m. Wednesday. I did not see any of the kings horses or any of the kings men show up to help.
I don't remember anything till about 6. I kind of made up for the sleep I didn't get last nite. The doctor told my son and sister that it went pretty well. If he told me he wasted his breath and pretty much said that I would not remember anything at that point in the pre-op conference. We got out of the hospital in Des Moines right at 730. For you military people that is 1930 hours. LOL.
We went to Marshalltown and grabbed supper. The restaurant was right next to Walgreens. I had checked earlier to see how late the pharmacist was on duty. The machine was right when it told me 10 p.m. as there were 2 ladies working behind the counter at about 9 when we got there.I got my drugs and we went the 25 miles north to home by about 10. I called my parents and texted my sister and another son the status of things. I have a bunch more people to inform tomorrow. I hope things continue to go as well as they did today. The only complaint I have at this point is that the back of my throat is a little raw from the breathing tube. I was warned about that earlier.
Since I have been confined it isn't unusual for me to see Ken from Mn posts before I go to bed. Once in awhile I see Jon from Mn chuckle of the day. I am a little wired tonite and Don't expect to go to sleep for another couple of hours.
God bless you all.

Roy, glad to hear the surgery went well. ....Just one thing I hafta ask -- do you have any plans to install a light in that big, dark hole? *lol*

Don't know if you've ever had to keep your leg elevated a lot, but one of the "fun" things I remember from my experience is when I would let my leg down and all the blood would rush back into it again. Boy, oh boy! At first it made me come unglued!!

Be sure to follow the doctors orders....TO THE LETTER! You're no spring chicken like I was, so it'll likely be a workout in patience getting back on your feet again. Take your time and do it slowly. ...And you got lots of time before that part happens!

Keeping the prayers coming!

2 yrs ago, almost to this day, I got my leg too close to a corn chopper that gnawed on it till I got loose. surgeries, keep your leg elevated, etc etc.
I will tell you, if you get a pain in the side that won't let you sleep, get checked out for pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lung). after I had to sleep in the recliner for 2 nights, wife called our GP dr, he said get to ER NOW. sure enough, blood clot in left lung. could have been real bad.

Happy to hear that things went well. Hoping for a speedy recovery and keeping you in our thoughts. I've always said one of the best things about the antique tractor/engine hobby is the people you meet. There are some good ones on this site.

Good to hear you are already out!

I was thinking you might be in there a few days, everything must have went well.

Still praying, hang in there!

All I can say is take it easy.Do what the Doc tells you. Don't worry about what might happen. Because it might not. I am getting over a stroke. Things are slow but getting better. I am sure you will do the same.

I said a prayer for you also. This is a great site with great people on it. Hang in there and don't overdo it. Let it heal.
I was telling my wife about what happened to you as we sat on the front porch drinking our hot tea yesterday morning. She said that sounded awful.

IA Roy,
Glad to hear your surgery went well. Hope the healing process goes well too and you have good mobility once recovered. Keeping you on my list.

Home already that's great. Just stay away from that pit for a while. If you have the strong pain pills be careful they will bind you up real quick. Like others have said, Obey the Doc. Stan

Hopefully by now you were smart enough not to walk around on your fresh surgery and take the pain meds before you need them. Coming off the hosp pain meds is fun when you realize the over the counter are not quite as good and your hosp high and the pain hits you like a ton of bricks, all at once.
The other one is taking stool softeners due to all those pain meds now plugging up the plumbing.
Hopefully you don't get the nick name 'Hop-a-long" to go with your injury. 'Twinkle toes' might be your new log-in though. . . .

I did pray when you requested it before surgery. Glad to hear you are on the mend (thus far) and hope it continues. I'm interested in the "how and why" of the fall - just so it may help someone else avoid the situation.

Sounds like you have the support of family and others around you to help. As you know, that's important in the healing process. Sending you best wishes and speedy recovery from Maryland.

Hey Roy, I'm on your team also, glad to hear it went well, I will plug in some more prayers too!
