Baker Vlave

Are you perhaps referring to the Baker Valve GEAR?

This was the mechanism used to operate admission valves on steam locomotives. It was patented and first built by the A. D. Baker Co of Swanton, OH in the early 1900's.

The Baker gear was an improvement on the then standard Walschaerts locomotive valve gear.

There was also a baker valve out of mpls Minnesota that supplied a piston valve and cage for upgrading a steam engine from a d slide valve and John Deere may have purchased a company called baker valve having to do with hydraulics more research would be needed on that to confirm

Baker Manufacturing was in Neligh Nebraska. There is some family around there yet, but don't know nothing else. Maybe posting and asking for 44 Massey here on Tractor Talk, he lived in Neligh his whole life.

The Pilliod company, who is said to have made the valves in production, is not mentioned in the history of Swanton Ohio. A pillard cabinet company is. Jim
