Unusual or Unlikely Farm Accident

Years ago my dad rented the family farm out to a neighbor that is a good farmer. A few years ago the neighbor and his son built a lift so he could lift himself up to the cab platform on the combine. He is in his early 80's and can't climb the steps on the combine any more. Well today while he was lifting himself up to the cab a bolt broke on the winch and it dropped him the 6=7 feet while he was on the platform. He ended up with 7 broken ribs, broken spine and they think his one kidney may have been damaged. Luckily his son was there to call for help. He's in ICU right now in St. Louis, Mo. I have noticed no matter what age Dad or Grandpa is they still want to be the one to run the combine. I don't blame them but hate to see something like this happen to anyone at any age. So unfortunate! I hope the best for him.

That's awful to hear. I wish him well in his recovery. That can be a bigger problem with older folks than the original injury.

We all love our family members,,But..if they can't get into the cab like normal they shouldn't be in there at all...it's just not safe...

When my Dad was sick he still wanted to go deer hunting, we helped him into a tree stand and left him alone for a few hours. He couldn't have hit anything if he did get the chance. If he died from a fall or something he probably would have been happy. He didn't live that long so they were probably the best of his last days.
