What I learned about painting today

Started the inside painting on the house today. I learned a few things.
1. If you want help painting you can
ask me, I found it fun.
2. It's a LOT of work, not as much as
ceiling scraping, but a lot still.
3. If you want it to look nice, you'll.
You'll have to ask someone else. I
suck at painting. Lol
Got 2 rooms all fixed and primed so far. Still have to Finnish mudding a couple and paint them. Then new windows and flooring and we move to the other side of the house and do it again.

When we built our house my wife and I thought we would save money and do the painting. The contractor talked us out of it. I am glad he did.

LOL! You found it fun. Buddy your hired! I hate painting. I use an airless sprayer if at all possible over a brush and roller.

It sure is great having a SIL that is a painter/sheet rock finisher.

Like many SIL's they are most often dumber than a box of rocks and not fit for your daughter.
But I have personally seen that boy float; splatter; and paint a room without ever touching a piece of sandpaper.

I bought the house I'm living in last July (2017). Planned on moving in July of 2018 which I did. House is 215 miles from where I lived previously and was busy with outside work most weekends last fall. In November when it cooled off out side I started painting, ceiling first, It was a bearcat of a job but at least the rooms were empty. Finally got done around the 1st of Feb and then got new carpet installed. I'm glad I did it then as it would be very difficult now. The spackkled ceiling in the living, dining and kitchen was the worst.

I just got done putting down a new kitchen floor from the beams on up. the walls and ceiling needed to be done also so I did them before the floor. I learned that on the wood work a good quality brush makes it go faster and easier.

I just finished scraping the popcorn, texturing, and painting the master bedroom.

Not fun, never turns out as well as I would like, but I'm the only one who knows all the screw-ups, and I'm not telling!

Still need to do the floor, door and trim, waiting for new windows to be installed.

The only popcorn left now is in the laundry room and garage. Laundry room will be easy, garage is way down the list.

We just remodeled a farmhouse 3 years ago. With nothing in the way and no trim to worry about it was a cakewalk,, once I got the ceilings done, that was tough on old arms. A hint is if you mess up the trim work just a bit the wife will step in and do it for you, LOL

I don't mind painting, but the pros can get an impressive lot of work done in a short time, no taping or masking, they just do it right the first time and wipe off any occasional runs or drips right away. Like installing sheet rock, I have to choose my battles and will hire the pros to do the big or difficult jobs.

Probably too late now but when it comes to buying the paint expensive paint is worth every penny.

Did our whole house a few years back.

Cheap paint = poor coverage and the need for extra coats.

Expensive paint = excellent coverage especially on the ceilings, most rooms only needed one coat.

Comparing the rooms I did with cheap paint vs expensive paint 2 coats of cheap cost as much or more than 1 coat of the good stuff and half of the labor.
