Another project under way.

Well after selling the 706 and doing adjustments on the O.C.46,where by installing our fork lift brackets we made, along with a skid to stand on,apple picking time.We have 2 fruit bearing trees that are loaded to the breaking point,so I made applesauce but so many apples that the idea to make apple jack for the family came about.Bought 2 large drinking water jugs aprx 4 1/2 gal. Peeled, pressed, strained apples and so far got 4 1/2 gal cooking. The problem is making a working press so that chore can be solved.I understand that apple jack was used in place of money during the early years, but I am making apple jack for the family so the apples won't go to waste.
Diabetes prohibits me from drinking much booze but like it's said,to"drink a little wine for thy stomach sake" so
that's what I intend to do besides helping with the winters supply of wood.Turned 83 years old in July and trying not to be idle.Need to do something besides complaining about all the aches and pains that goes on in life.I"m looking forward to at least a couple more years to help out. Now that the tractor shed is empty, going to place non critical items inside so there will be more room in the garage.
Never enough room for acquired items that keep sneaking up on us.The dozer and Bobcat takes up a lot of space, but they are garage items that need to be kept at a suitable temperature.Thought you folks would like to know what goes on in an 83 year old mind.lol.Garden is about done except for potatoes next project on the agenda.
Warmest regards, Lou & Victor.

Lou, good to hear from you. I was a bit concerned about you, as it has been some time since your last post.
I had a 14yro helper this summer and we cut split and stacked in another 20 cord of wood. I had to move the metal partition wall in my tractor shed over another bay to accommodate it.
The garden was nothing to brag about this year, but we have our pantry full. The wifey is freezing the last of the carrots this evening, and that is the end of gardening this year.
Hoping that you and Victor have a good winter, and don't leave us hanging wondering about you for so long.
Loren

Good to hear from You Lou-- got a recipe for us -- maybe some instructions - can other fruit be used? pears? looks like a good fall project! thanks Lou --- Roy from northwest Iowa

Just take a cruise on YouTube. There are loads of helpful videos. Some use apple juice, some do what you have done, some use yeast and some use natural yeast in the air like the old timers. It does sound like an interesting project to try. If you want to do what 5he old timers did to up the power of their jug o joy. Let mother nature freeze the juice when it has finished. Or stick it in your freezer. The water freezes out and leaves the alcohol behind. You can double the proof darn near.

Keep doing what you are doing, seams to be keeping you going. I Hope to be doing what you are able to do when I am 83. I am trying to catch up with you. I am 76 now. Stan

Must be nice to be able to do something with the apples. All mine fall off the trees long before they ripen, leaving me with a mess to clean up. It's gotten so in recent years I just mow over them. Don't know what else to do. They're just about impossible to rake into a pile to scoop up with a shovel, picking them up one at a time just ain't gonna happen, and as soon as I get them cleaned up, a whole bunch more fall and I'm right back where I started...
