Whatever happened to rubber tire putty?

Remember the two-part stuff that you'd use if you got a piece of a tire lug knocked off, or hidden barbed wire clawed your sidewall? Gempler's carried it (before they became as much a clothing store as anything else) but so did a lot of tractor dealers and ag tire places. Now I need some and it seems as if no one has it any more. Anyone seen any recently? I'm cynically guessing that either it gave off too many volatile hydrocarbons for the environmental regulators or else some bozo used it on a car tire and their estate sued the manufacturer into oblivion.

Tech brand Cat #858 is the correct name and number of it. Has a short shelve life and cost a good bit. I have an A can of it sitting here on this desk

Have been looking around a bit more, and it appears that Devcon Flexane Putty is the closest thing to the old stuff that I can easily get my hands on. They make you buy a couple of pounds of it, so it's a bit pricy.

Belzona company also makes a 2 part rubber filler that is used quite a bit in power houses. I have no idea what the cost is but it comes in small packages. I do know the 2 part Belzona steel repair is about $350 a set. Not sure what distributor handles it though. Keith

I remember going through a town near me that had a sign that read: OK Rubber Welders. I don't know what they did, I guess they repaired tires. This was in the 50's. Stan

The stuff I have is so far gone it would not help but it has also been on my desk for at least 10 years LOL
