Update on $25 welder

Hooked up good battery, engine cranks normally. Decent spark both cylinders. Not great, but ok. No fuel to carb, very odd. Clear fuel line disappears under side cover then up to tank. Couldn't feel any petcock or shut-off back there. I'll next take off the wheel on that side because it prevents the side cover from opening. Not sure what would keep the gas from getting to the carb. Everything smells fresh, no old-gas smell. Suggestions if you got em, thnx.

Pour a little gas down the carb to see if it will start. I've been able to keep engines going indefinitely by having gas in a little cup, pour a little in as its running. Good way to diagnose fuel pump problems- if the engine is running, it should draw fuel to the carb if its ever going to.

Thanks, great suggestion ! Fired right up and stayed running at a rough and smoky idle. Engine speed very low. Can't fool with it any more this eve but I'll keep you posted. Thanks again,

Gary

If you can get to the fuel line to the carb, pull it off, spin the engine through, see if it pumps fuel.

If no, there is no fuel getting to the pump, or the pump is bad. The old pumps weren't designed for ethanol gas, the diaphragms are short lived.

If yes, could be a stuck needle valve in the carb, gummed up float hinge, gummed up carb in general. If you can get the spout of a carb cleaner can in the fuel fitting, sometimes they will free up.

Onan twin running great, no fuel leaks or strange noises. Plugged into all outlets, most produce a nice bright bulb but two can barely get a dim glow. Sorry, didn't try the 240V--everything I have is hard-wired. Also did not try to strike an arc yet. Only one cable came with it and I don't know enough about welding to proceed further until I educate myself a bit.
