Identification plate and painting clearcote for preservation

Specifically, I have a small garden tractor Allis Chalmers B1 with an id plate on the briggs and stratton engine. Someone painted over all of the original paint on everything. I took some laquer and got the id plate pretty close to original, without removing the original wording and everything on the plate. Now I have a choice of just leaving it alone (tape it off) when I repaint everything. Or Option 2 is taking enamel clear cote, and try and clear cote over it. What are some opinions on best ways to "preserve" any original tags when "restoring" a tractor? It's getting new paint, Overhauled engine and some new oil seals and such in the transmission. *** As a side note... Nice thing about lawn tractors, Not as much components as my allis chalmers "C" when I restored that. My piggy bank isn't going to be as empty on this one. ha ha ha. Thanks everyone!

Lucky You, having an AC garden tractor, I blew up the hydro on my simplicity, and ended up making do , with a c175 wheel horse. I haven't found any AC's, to buy! I have 2 wd45's, a B , and 2 c's, and one CA. I really would prefer, that my garden tractor, matched the herd.

Now that it's clean, and if you like the look of it, and it will be in out of the weather, I would leave it as is, maybe coat it with car wax to keep it from corroding. Just don't get wax on the area around it you will be painting!

Any clear coat will be temporary, will eventually start to degrade, and will have to be cleaned again, which causes more of the original paint to be lost.

My take on it anyway...

Boy,have I got an Allis Chalmers for you! Bring your trailer and your checkbook.

Funny thing IS being you friend I withheld my thought when you were talking about what a good deal you got, maybe 3/4 years ago, I don,t know time flies but I remember how happy you were when you bought it. I really thought it might not be a bad mower but seems it did not work out for you and a lot of other folks. We have seen several of the black daemons show up for trade in on Kubotas. You just need to find you an Oliver mower then you would feel good. LOL

I hope you post a picture. I have a All is Chalmers too. How to stop my phone from changing words? Like All is Chalmers?

I'd rather have the Wheel Horse. The mower deck on the one next to the shed corner will be 50 years old next year, mows an acre and 3/4 every week.
