What to use to clean out a diesel tank?

What is the best to use to clean some gunk and grime out of a tractor diesel fuel tank? Can you use
some of the liner solution that is used for gasoline tanks in a diesel tank if it needs it?

You can use most any thing that will cut grease like solvent dawn dish soap then rinse thoroughly dry and reassemble. If rusty inside yes you can coat it with those tank coatings. I had both tanks done to my pick up with that gas tank renuz it stuff over 20 years ago with no problems. If it doen't leak when clean keep it full of fuel in the off times will be more good than any coating you can put on. The fuel will not go bad over several years. Gas can not diesel fuel. I've used fuel from old tanks and tractors that was over 15 years old.

Yes to power washer and E85. Fill as much of the tank that shows crud and let it soak a few days. If the crud is breaking down unscrew the fuel lines and stick the power washer nozzle in through the filler. Be careful you don't get hurt. You will not believe how much crap will come out. E85 works great. I did a CUB tank one time. Buckets full of old crud gas.

I did one recently. But I took it off and used purple power as recommended by a GA friend.
Poured it in and sloshed and then rinsed with hose pipe and nozzle. Repeated several times.Dryed using a small squirrel cage fan.
Looked like brand new inside when finished.

Alan, like others have said I use E85, let it soak in the hot sun and shake it over a couples days, drain it, then steam clean it.

I have heard e85 works well too however I didn't have any so I used dishwasher soap and had good results. Less flammable too.
