If you are talking about the rolled steel sheets typically used for pole buildings, there is no difference between roofing metal and siding metal. They do have different quality grades such as No. 1 or No. 2 metal, and there are different rib patterns. Most sold around here is 29 ga. which is pretty thin. Forty years ago the industry standard was 26 ga., but that is harder to find now.

There are different metals however most today are galvalume. The only difference is the wall metal is powder coated. Still it's not rust proof. Any place I have metal in contact with the ground I put an additional coating of roof tar on it.

When my Employer decided to Re Roof the Company buildings, I bought the used tin sheets from the contractor for $crap price. I am in the process of covering the sides of my old wooden buildings. There is enough fibreglass to cover the windows too. It's working out good for me.

Look around your area for a metal building supply.

They will have everything you need, including tech support. They probably have a web site where you can look through all the trim options, have a game plan before buying.

Once ready to purchase, take careful measurements, go over everything you will need with the supplier. Then have the panels cut to the length you need. That way there will be no waste, the cuts will be factory square and clean, everything will match and you will have a professional (or better) looking job.

In my part of the world roofing is heaver, siding is 29ga and roofing is 28ga. Sometimes sold as hail proof(I would need that in writing)
