Ford 600 Series

I was reading somewhere on here that the Ford 600 series had different number designations for different ?options?. It then listed some of those, and at one point said that the 620 series had ?no PTO or 3 point hitch?. So I find myself wondering why a farmer would have wanted one of those, if he couldn?t use a 3 point implement nor power anything with it. Can someone enlighten me here? Maybe that information isn?t complete?
I love the history of these Ford tractors, so this topic intrigues me.
Thanks!

A concrete plant here in our little town ordered one just like that. They mounted a heavy fork lift on the back, installed a hydraulic pump onto the crankshaft along with a valve with power up and gravity down, and moved forms of poured cement into the drying rooms. It worked very well until the front axle broke. At that time they mounted an axle from an older one-ton truck and continued to overload it day after day.

The market for those was as airport and military tugger tractors. My neighbor bought a 1955 like that from Braniff airline in an employee auction for $300 in 1966, real good tractor. He put Ag tires on rear and pulled grain drill, one way plow and hay rake. I?ve seen one at a show that was painted yellow.

Maybe so it could be advertised at a low price....with " pto and 3 pth extra cost " in the fine print below the ad....lol

If you added the extras then it became a different model. Most popular was the 640 with 4 speed transmission and PTO and 3 point hitch, leave the PTO and hitch off it was the 620. The 650 was a 5 speed with the PTO and hitch, The 660 was about same as the 550 except the adition of a LIVE PTO. There was a 630 but other than the 4 speed I don't know what it had as very seldem heard of. But a lot of places hitch or PTO not needed. Hitch would be removed to get it out of the way.

The 620 came without those parts, but they were basically bolt on. So possibly,
a guy would want to buy the tractor this harvest and add the extras next harvest.
