Getting to be that time of year

The weather should be cooling down soon so I feel it's time to get the chainsaw up in shape. If it's over 60 degrees it's too hot for me to cut much wood, I like to do that chore when it's a little on the cool side. My Wife and Mother would just as soon I didn't run the chainsaw at all no more stable that I am on my feet but I just don't feel like I want to give up on it yet. It does hurt when I fall over with a running chainsaw because I have to concentrate on where that blade is when I go over, not a good thing to come into contact with that, so I cannot catch myself when I land. My Son ran it the other day, he took the chainsaw from me. My Wife, Son and Son's Fiance were ganging up on me. I had never let him run it before, I suppose he can do it, he is 30 years old. They had just about crapped when the limb that I was cutting up happened to roll over on me. It didn't hurt that much and if anything bad happened I'd rather it happened to me than my son.

Anyhow, I got my air filter changed. I had been putting it off so the old filter was pretty well gunked up.

Oh Heck! I just realized that I probably put this in the wrong forum! It should have been tractor tales. My computer blew up so I'm using this laptop and I can hardly see some of the little type on this tiny screen. Sorry everybody!

The wife found out the word 'Chainsaw' gets you to the front of the line at the ER. I walked in once and asked which one was faster. 'Chainsaw' or heart attack'? They said either one was good for a pass to the front. I suppose if you did them both at once you might get the gold ticket.

Buy a set of chainsaw chaps. They are well worth the money considering the danger involved with using a chainsaw. If you are not steady on your feet it is even more important. My son bought 360cc Stihl chainsaw a few years ago that is a monster. It is so fast it is scary when it runs. Make one slip while that thing is running and you wouldn't have a leg.... After our first wood cutting we both went and bought a set of Kevlar chainsaw chaps.

If you are unstable on your feet, it may be time to reconsider what you can do, and can't do without hurting your self. Maybe your saw is too heavy. I have a Husky Rancher 55, I have had for years It's a very heavy saw. Now I have a Echo 12 inch saw, it starts in a couple pulls, and is very light to work with. just be carefull. Stan

Don't mean to be picky , but the largest chain saws run around 120cc or so. I have an 85cc saw and that is considered to be on the large end of the scale. Stihl shows a model 362 which 59cc or 3.6 cubic inch engine. Might this be the one you are talking about?

You might consider trying to get yourself more steady on your feet rather than eating a running chainsaw. I found that I, at 69, was getting a little unstable, and then I found out about balancing on one foot. You do 30 seconds on each foot twice a day. That has made me get better instead of deteriorating. I also do squats every morning so that I can push back up from squatting when I need to, and I do shoulder exercises daily, and lower back exercises 2X/week.
