Towing a johndeere

Depends on what the model is,,some have a tow position on the shifter, some have a disconnect lever.. some will lock up if towed very little,,what model is yours ??

Depends on how you are towing it. Chain or tow dolly front wheels set on and tied solid behind a good tow vehical. I had that tow dolly and towed mine with it at up to 25MPH with no problems. But then it towed just like a car behind a big motor home. Now if with a chain somebody will have to steer it so how good is the steering and how good are the brakes? Chain you MIGHT BE LUCKY to do 8MPH. Not enough information to give a good answer. Others have used my tow dolly as well and I bought it after previous owners did not have a narrow front anymore And it was a seed corn farm so might have towed many a mile. Tire condition can be deciding factor if they are round or not.

I hope you can because we used to tow the 36 "D" to all the neighboring towns to pull the float for the Rotary club in parade. We used a solid tow bar about 15 mph.

Should be fine if all lubricants are up to level, greased, etc., and the tires are good.

Keep speed reasonable.

Since you're only going two miles, speed should not be a concern. Go as slow as you need to. 10MPH, 8MPH, heck even 2MPH if you have to. It will still only take 12 minutes, 15 minutes, and no more than an hour.

Both our local Deere dealers told Dad to pull the 1940 4-speed B he bought at auction he either needed to haul it the 25 miles on a trailer or flat tow it on a 2-wheel dolly with the engine running to keep oil circulating where needed. TractorData says that tractor had a 4-1/2 mph road gear, but tractor came on rubber tires. No problem with tractor after we got it to it's new home. Dad and I both cranked that flywheel till we couldn't stand up any longer, towed it two miles to try to pull start just to get it running. Once running and loaded on the dolly we drove +/- 15-20 mph with it It was December and snow on the ground, so it was cold.

So if your A starts and runs, drive it the two miles.

Our local John Deere guru had a 3020 behind his shop for several years. The story was that the owner wanted him to look at his tractor after the engine locked up. He offered to get it with his roll back. The man declined and said it was only a couple of miles he would tow it. They got right in front of the shop when the rear wheels locked up. They got another tractor and drug it into the back. There it sat until the shop owner retired and sold the property.
