Onan engine question

12 v battery ignition. New coil $175 so I tried running 2 automotive coils wired parallel. Heavy blue spark at points comes and goes at seemingly regular intervals, like 15 seconds, and it runs good while points are not sparking. I had a condenser on each coil and one in the breaker box, and disconnecting them one at a time doesn't seem to make any difference. Possibly all 3 condensers bad (all used)? Thanks Fritz

Using two coils in parallel doubles the current that the points have to switch and (at best) that isn't going to be good for point life.

NO need to "reinvent the wheel", here.

There's all sorts of Onan twin coils available on ebay for $30 and up.

Coils for Kohler twins with points also work.

When I started having condenser problems on an OEM condenser with less than 100 hours run time and new
points & condenser are over $75 I parked my garden tractor with the Onan engine. New mower has a Kawasaki engine. I don't feel like the Kawasaki is a ticking time bomb when I run it. I actually feel violated when I walk out of the dealer after buying Onan parts.
I'd check KIRK ENGINES for a coil, and his after-market ignition costs less than new points or new condenser, but still needs points.
