Can this be fixed?

A few weeks ago we had a big storm blow through and broke down 4 trees. It was cloudy and cool yesterday so I thought I would start on them. Long story short a good sized limb dropped unexpectedly and landed right on my pole saw and snapped it in half. This had been my dads saw before he passed away. He took immaculate care of all of his tools. I am sick about this. Can it be repaired with some new parts or is it a total loss. The engine kept running even though it's head was knocked off. Yesterday was just not my day.

If the broken casting is aluminum, it can be welded. if white metal (zinc alloy) probably not. What kind is it, and how old. Jim

I would guess parts are still available or at least you probably can find used parts..
 
I'm sure Stihl can get you whatever you need to repair that. Most likely just that cast housing. It'll take a little time, but definitely doable.
 
being stihl that is likely aluminum or magnesium and either can be welded by a good shop. But replacement parts will be a better idea.
 
I would think there is enough of these around, you should be able to find one on ebay, or new may be a little harder being so old. Thing do happen. A few days ago my cordless drill fell on the ground, and broke completely it two. Then there is the time I backed over my line trimmer. Stan
 
Hit a few pawnshops, the fixed length and the one like yours used the same head, might get lucky
Either way it?s reparable
 
Yeah don't count on Stihl having major parts for anything more than maybe 10 years old, unless the design hasn't changed. If they're still making the saw, or an "updated" version, the current parts will probably fit.
