Buying a LS tractor

I am currently looking at replacing a very old, tired, wornout JD 3010 diesel. The LS tractors in the 65 hp range look like a nice unit and the dealer I am working with has a good parts supply and repair dept. What are some thoughts on these tractors?
Thanks in advance for all your help

Look lower in this forum several days. I had asked about LS Tractors and got a lot of input. 2510Paul

Greg I have to be very carful what I say as I am bias being a KUBOTA dealer for years. First off the folks that make the LS tractor have been around. Sold tractors under several names in the US. Las try before the LS name was MONTANA. I know some folks that have bought them and got buy or liked them. I have had some traded in on KUBOTAS and just found out the hard way resale is silch., like got $ 8,000 for a three year old that a guy said he gave 24,000 for. If I were you I certainly would want to buy that tractor cheaper than say a JD< Kubota or more recognized brand. I know a guy that waited over 6 weeks for a radiator for one but if you are comfortable with the dealer and the tractor it certainly is your money. When you go to comparing tractors do not worry too much about the brand what you watch for is things like , horse power, hydraulic pump capacity, creature things like good seat, lift out lift links , hydraulic shuttle to back up , compare apples to apples.

Several of my neighbors have big LS ?cab? tractors that their cutting, raking and baleing hay with, we have a good dealer in our town that sales a lot of them, old family business that was originally a Ford dealer, then New Holland and now sells the LS tractors. Our local city utility dept also uses the big cab LS tractors for cutting the road right of ways and city property. Have not heard anything bad about them..

From what I see the cost of ownership of a Kubota is substantially less than Kioti, LS, New Holland, or many others with lower prices.

Everybody always says the resale value of not their brand is zilch. Bet you don't sell it to me for $0. To the OP, do some more research and then buy a low houred used unit. Low resale value is a good thing when you are a buyer. Still trying to buy an R75 Gleaner combine for $0. Guys will tel you they have no resale as well.

I was at a dealer's place about 10 years ago and asked if he ever got any Long Tractors in his place. He told me Long tractors were junk and they just haul them to the scrap yard,
I gave him my card and said the next time you get one in give me a call I'll give you 2X what the scrapyard gives you and I'll do the hauling.Still waiting for his call.(LOL)

People talk about resale value as if tractors are something you trade off every 2-3 years. I guess if you can do that, more power to you, but most of us don't like payments, and plan on keeping a tractor for decades. At that point resale value becomes irrelevant. In 20-30-40 years, for all we know Kubota could be completely defunct and LS the premiere brand.

We have a 2000 Long LandTrac, pre Montana. Has served us well. Is having the reverser replaced right now, parts are getting scarce and expensive. It is a "compact" and is not as well built as a "utility". We have worked it hard, trying to get 50 HP out of a 47HP tractor. But, everything still works, it starts in sub-zero weather. I'd buy another for the same price. At least 10 grand cheaper than a MF, JD or Kubota. If you are going to bury it, who cares what the resale value is?

Have you considered a Mahindra? They make a "Utility" model. Are heavier than NH and MF. Everything now has computers and the series 4, or whatever, engine and they will be a problem for everybody.

I would do like Blue-tractor Man and rebuild the 3010 and run it another 40 yrs. You will better off and have a better tractor and you can work on it your self. Neighbor passed away and the family is selling his Montana with 103 hrs and can't even get an offer-- over a yr. Cab etc.

NO offers at all? Hard to believe or no offers over a certain price?Take it to an auction I have yet to be at an auction where a complete tractor didn't get a bid.
