Ferguson engine bearings - help requested!

Hi all,
My Ferguson TEA has developed a knocking near the flywheel. When I rev up it knocks louder, and when I throttle down, it screeches. I believe that the main bearings have gone, so I need to replace them. Do I need to pull the engine out and put it on a bench, or can I simply pull the sump cover off and do the the bearings from underneath? Or is the time saved underneath better used pulling the engine off?
I have attached a video of it - hopefully it works!
Thanks!
Joshua

I am a Ford guy. The old 4 cylinder engines had to come out to replace the rear main seal. You don't want to do bearings without doing the rear seal. You may be able to get it 90% done from underneath, but you will still need total it out. Splitting takes an our each way on one of those. You will save four hours being able to do it from above.

Have you considered...

If the bearings are worn enough to knock, the crankshaft will be scored or worn as well. Just changing bearings will be a very temporary fix at best. The only real fix is to take the crankshaft out to a machine shop and have it reground and fitted with properly sized bearings. For obvious reasons, this cannot be done without removing the engine.

if it's knocking you have bigger issues then just putting bearings in it. and it won't be an in frame fix
