(quoted from post at 16:30:09 08/14/18) Heyseed, you and I are on the same page.....doe are for eating, the nicer bucks are for breeding.

Come October or November, this friendly trio will be tryin' to kill one another. LOL

Here in NYS, by the time deer season comes around, the biggest bucks have already performed their "duty" so it won't hurt if a few of them get taken by the "trophy" hunters.

They are looking good, we have at least 4 in the local herd that tend to frequent our land which is very good habitat.
I have seen quite a few large doe, they are always bigger than the bucks, and typically not too old, meat is excellent.
I'll have 3 doe tags this year, got 2 today.

One thing that is disturbing is that the coyotes killed all the fawns except 2 this year. Hunters seem to keep the balance and I have never seen it overcrowded, but these coyotes are a game changer, could easily offset the population, the traps are going out soon. Hate the darned things as they howl all night and wake me up all the time. It's worse than a neighbors barking dog. I have also seen 3 full size carcasses taken down by them in the last 2 years, something I have never seen as I have found dead ones at different times over the years that have never been touched and been out there for days in the cold weather. My 2 other friends have seen them from their stands headed for my kills. Last year right after I took 2 in the same lane within 15 minutes of each other, coyotes were headed in, both seen by my friends and captured on camera.
