Disc for a John Deere R

all depends what your discing. a summer fallow field will be much harder pulling than a stubble field. a 14 ft. should be a good suitable disc for that tractor.

So many variables. For a regular light duty disk 14' with 20" blades will come very close to stopping the tractor if buried to the spools in bare soil. But if you are disking heavy tough corn stalks that won't let the disk go in the ground 14' will be an easy 4th gear load. I do know an R wont hardly know anything is back there if it pulls an old Deere RW 14' disk with 16" blades in corn stalks.

I plan on using it for everything from plowed fields to after harvest. So something that's good for varied uses.

plus, dont forget you can adjust the hyd. cyl. so you dont have to be buried to the spools in soft ground. 14ft. will be good.

In my part of Texas a 45hp tractor will struggle with a 10ft disc. I have 2 55-60 hp tractors and 12ft 22in disc worn down to 18in with wheels all the way up its all they want.

I did a little disking with the R diesel Dad had for a few weeks spring of 1964. Pulled a 14 ft Krause disk in old corn ground. Think I ran in 4th gear. It would NOT have pulled that disk in plowed ground in 4th gear, 3rd gear would have been a load for that thing. That's why Dad only kept it for 4-5 weeks. Went back to using the Super M-TA for everything.
