Computer issue again

Windows 10. The volume icon on the bottom task bar isn't working. If I hover the arrow over it,it says the speakers are at 30%. That's fine,I believe it,I usually run it at 20% though. I click on it,it won't open up so I can raise or lower it. Right click and nothing happens either.

I turned the computer off Friday morning and unplugged it. Plugged it in and turned it back on this morning. It worked when I shut it off. All the other icons in the task bar work normal.

Randy,
Is it mute across all applications... like online radio, iTunes, etc.?

Or if only on YouTube - could you have inadvertently hit the "Mute" button?

I only ask because... well, don't ask me how I know. LOL

Also, cannot remember from work where I have Win10...

But on Win7 iffen it won't open with a left-click (and it should)...then try a right-click and select Open Volume Mixer or something similar sounding.

This may not be of any use to you, but I noticed this morning that my computer keyboard has volume control keys. I've only had it for three years. I suppose I never bothered to try them since I run Linux, but sure enough they work. And there's a key that looks like a little calculator; when I hit it the calculator program pops up.

No,it's not mute. I play a radio station out of Kentucky on it when I'm in the house. I can hear it just fine,it's just a little louder than I like to have it and I want to turn it down. It just won't bring up the box that lets you roll the volume up or down with the mouse or the arrow keys. 20% is fine for me as a general rule. When I work out on the elliptical and watch Ag Day,I have to turn it up to 64% so I can hear it over the sound of the machine,so if I don't fix it by morning,it's gonna be a problem.

I always left click to open it so I can slide it up and down. Left click or right, nothing happens. One thing I am noticing though, the Edge icon is a gray color with a light blue line under it when I'm online, when I left click the volume icon, the Edge icon turns black with the blue line under it. In other words, the gray turns to black. So something is happening. The computer is recognizing that I'm clicking something.

When all else fails, I shut 'er down, give it a couple minutes - then power it up again... sometimes it's a miracle cure for what ails a puter. :)

I'd say LOL,but I just tried it before you posted. I left it off for about 10 minutes. It works.

That's OK... sometimes I rack my brain trying this and trying that... before the light bulb comes on to "shutdown & restart".

Happens to the best of us. LOL

Glad it's working now.
