Farming with my son

My 9 year old decided to enter a diorama into the fair. We’re been working on it off and on over the past 6 months. There will be dozens of them at the Grant County Fair.

That is nice,,I love miniture stuff.. had a friend that had a set of twin boys and another son a year latter,,he set up a display
in his basement with them that was amazing ,,,side roads,, dairy farms,, field tileing ,,row crops, dealerships a wreck on a side
road with a life flight comming in,,they played with it for years and got more intense with it as they went,,it took up most of the
basement and was a fun project,,much better than video games....

(quoted from post at 12:36:34 08/12/18) Yer cows are out..."8^)

Nice work. Using the brush for the discharge from the chopper is a nice touch.

We also used one for the wagon that is unloading in the blower at the silo.

"The cows are out!" is the name of the scene. The backstory is the kid was sent out to get the last load of hay in the field on the other side of the pasture, and he decided to leave the gate open because the cows weren't near it. As usual, as soon as he was away from the gate, the cattle materialized and went through it! He's on his way back with the M and the last load and is just realizing his screw-up. Dad's chopping, Mom is unloading silage, and a sibling is finishing up raking.

Most of this stuff was mine from when I was a kid. It's all his now.

I helped quite a bit by putting in the 5 wire fence. It leaves a lot to be desired, but I've never seen anyone try it before. Hopefully we can do some more experimenting and next year's will be better.

My 12 year old daughter started talking about doing one next year as well!

I think it is great. If you decide to get more into it go to a model railroad forum. There is some amazing talent out there and some with average talent but amazing imagination that more than makes up for it.

Nice job! I"d like to see a muddy field with a tractor REALLY stuck...label it Southern MN. Or just call it paul"s field....

Kid entered one for a couple of years, always stiff competition in that category.
Winner the last year he entered was one of a rotating goat milking parlor that some girl had built, that was pretty intricate work.

Really nice detail. I do N scale model trains (keeps me busy with the weather won't let me farm) and one of the layouts contains farm related scenes I
designed and built from kit parts so I can appreciate your work on your entry. Good luck.

I didn't have anybody to help me build them but I have a little guy (1st grader) that comes over with the family and helps me play with it from time to time.
Got him a railroad engineer's cap like mine to wear when playing. Sometimes I act like I'm asleep in the chair and peek out from under the bill to see what
he's into next. I like to see him exercise his imagination....hopefully it'll stay with him as he grows up. When he leaves, I put things back together, ready for
his next visit.
