Tisco Red Dog automatic tractor drawbar hitch

I am trying to find a way to reduce the number of times someone gets out of the tractor and has to manhandle a heavy tongue on a loaded gravity wagon. Yes, I know there are $400 automatic hitches. What about the ones that use to be on the back of corn pickers and forage choppers?? Maybe the Tisco brand model RDH102 ? RDH102 stands for Red Dog Hitch. Probably all of the farm stores use to sell them like Tractor Supply. Sort of plate steel jaws that would hold the hitch pin and then open when you pulled the rope. You could also back into the jaws and they would slam shut. Would this type of hitch pull a wagon with 325 bushels of corn OK???? Mainly out of the field and down the road 1/2 to a mile. I wouldn't be pulling a wagon to town. They seemed to work fine behind pickers and forage choppers. Thanks.

I would not trust those type of hitches with 300 plus bushels of grain. They would wear and lose small chopper boxes that did not weigh near that much.

I have seen some home made hitches that use a hydraulic cylinder to put in a hitch pin. The one in the picture uses the drawbar to pull which is good. I have seen similar ones that used the three point to pickup the tongue but still had a cylinder put a pin in.

Forgot the picture.

We had one on an old chopper, but I never trusted it to pull a full load down the road. Too much lliability.

The pin grabber ones work well, I suppose they can get worn. I wouldn't use it over about 8 ton wagon though. We use ours for bale baskets on a baler.

The ones I'm familiar with as you mention from the 70s and 80s looked like they were 150-200 bu hitches. I would not want 350 bu behind one. Even at that I'd be worried out on a public road.

The Agri-Speed hitch by Bergman is the new standard on these types of hitches for bigger wagons, probably the one you were talking about at first.
