Saw a car almost exactly like my first car today

Back in 88 when my Grandad passed away my parents bought his car off the estate for me. It was $800 and I worked it off at the barn. It was a 78' Olds Delta 88. Not sure if this one was a 78 or 79 but the color and vinyl roof and interior matched his old one exactly. His had a 403 with a Rochester 4bbl. No options not power locks windows nothing not even an armrest or fm radio. I was 14 when I got it,I had $900 saved up and got it painted with clear coat and on the road when I turned 16. Got quite a few tickets in that car.

I don't remember what year it was,but I had one that looked just like that. Four door, same color and all. Didn't have air. That wasn't a huge deal at the time, but I remember the guy who bought it from me made an issue of it like I was supposed to come down on the price or something. I didn't. He bought it anyway. He just wanted it for his daughter.

Wow I didn't realize it was that popular of a color. I gave it back to Dad when I was done of it and he sold it to his cousin. Mine didn't have air either. Mom and Dad had a wine color 79' Delta 88 Royal ,had a few power options nicer seats but just with a 350. It was a pretty sharp car when it was new.

We have been car shopping lately, and recently walked by a new Mustang Shelby Cobra, $61,000! My first Mustang was a 66, sold for about 2400 new, I bought it in 69 for 1350. We are not buying a new Mustang!

I wanted a new 2018 Mustang GT pretty bad 6 months ago, Wife just flat said NO, so bought a new 400 hp V-8 powered pickup. So back in mid May SON bought a new 2018 Mustang GT, his Midlife crisis, MY midlife crisis was an '88 Mustang GT hatch back with t-tops, 5-speed. Son's new car has TWICE the horsepiwer, accelerates WAY harder, his has a performance package #2 option, includes huge Brembo brakes, Recaro Racing Bucket seats, 305-40x19 ultra high, performance tires, almost racing slicks. Whether it's drag racing, road racing, or running around a skid pad, or just spirited street driving, car just amazes me. 45 mph Interstate entrance/exit ramps feel comfortable at 90. If you have to stop quick, check ALL your mirrors first, You WILL stop way faster than the car behind you. Yes, I just need a ride in Son's Mustang every once in a while.

My first car was a 1917 Model T I bought and fixed up when I was 16.
I now have another one that I will keep and drive as long as I can.

Haha very nice! We just got a new hemi ram with almost 400 hp too, what did you guys get?

My favorite later mustangs are the 07 styles ,they look so much like the late 60's early 70's.

My daddy bought a '78 delta 88 new. It was one of the best, most dependable cars he ever had, except my mother hated it. She got sick somehow the week they brought it home (probably the new car smell didn't help.) and hated it until he traded it 12 years later. His was baby blue with white upholstry.

I toyed with buying it when they traded it, and sure wish it was sitting around here now.

I bought a '67 fastback (271 hp - 289 - 4 spd) new for $3750. cash. Wish I'd never sold it. Traded it in on a new VW, got the VW and $2k . Marriage and thrift were in the equation. Dag nab it !!!

Your poor Mom,12 years is a long time to use a vehicle she hated. Blue with white interior would be very nice.

By AACA standards a 1993 is eligible as an antique now! As a 35 year old I like seeing the stuff I saw growing up accepted (well... sort of accepted) in the old car groups. Not much aftermarket other than the mechanical available, but 3d printing will bring these cars into the restorable realm soon!

My first car was a '62 Pontiac Catlina.. Dad pd $200 for it in 72 when I turned 16.'grandma' car.Power steering;power brakes;automatic trans'AC.... I hated it. Acctually it was a pretty good old car.Mom drove it after I bought my self a pickup and quit driving it.However,it was my sister who drove it for several years before she was married.Wrecked/"totaled" it 3 times! Dad later sold it for 300 to a college girl who drove it for several more years. :)

We traded my gorgeous burgundy 1976 Monte Carlo for a two tone gray
1978 Olds Delta 88. I believe it was the only lemon Oldsmobile built that year.
We had three steering columns put in under warranty and a couple
of starters the first two years. The General Manager of the dealership
got so aggravated with the Service Manager over the repair delays
that he gave us the service manager's demo to drive on vacation
until he could convince the regional manager to send parts. I caught
up with the regional service manager a couple weeks later and he
asked me if we had the car serviced regularly...I think he was in
the wrong line of work.
