I bought this wheel barrow used - 30 years ago. It's spent most of the time outside since then and the handles were rotted.
Broke one off about a year ago but now I need it to mix some mortar this weekend.
The tub and tire on it are fine.
I had some rough sawn white oak in my stash. So I sliced it up and fixed the old thing after work today.
Just ground the handles with a sanding disk.
Crude but I suspect it will last another 30 years.
Sometimes you get more satisfaction from small projects than big ones.

Leaving the steel the way it was ....... now that's the way to do it. The history is still there rather than painting it over. I often like tractors that same way, in their work clothes.

Good going! We lost an ash tree in our yard 20 years ago and I had it sawn into 2 inch planks, and I have made many wheelbarrow handles. I made up a jig on my radial arm saw, I spin the handle with a drill and do the cutting with a dado blade, works just like a lathe.

Uktradog,

I am not trying to "one-up-you", but I single handedly wore out two sets of bearings on the front wheel (one tire).

Nice job on the handles and such.

My handles are original, but I like yours better. Nice job.

I have a very sturdy wheel barrow I was given a few years ago. I keep it under cover as I have let a few rot out in years past.

I've got one of the same design that I bought in '79 ($49 CDN), only thing done to it was lube the axle and put a tube in the original tire. Nice work on the handles.

Nice job, I love the old Jackmanco, (Jackson Manufacturing Company) wheel narrows. I have 3 old originals and a carcass of the first one I that I've had since a kid, needs what you did. They are well built. 2 have the original tires that say jackmanco on them. All 3 were craigslist funds, $20-$30. I look for the old ones, all are kept inside.

You forgot to wire the handles for batteries.
Everytime I wanted to use mine the tire was flat.
They now have solid rubber tires.
It took me 5 years to double the size of my home and add 25000 brick.
That's when I bought a new wheelbarrow to mix mortar in.
I bought this place in 1977. Only house my kids grew up in. I don't have the heart to ever sell it, too many memories. The grass looks bad. Just had tree removed and made a flower bed over the stump.

That is unbelievable! I just finished one exactly like yours, even down to the ink marks on the handles. When I saw your pictures, I thought you had taken my wheel barrow. Looks Good.
