Pending corn crop.

I posted the other day about corn crop in Indiana. Yesterday I went from Paducah Ky. up I 57 to Champaign Illinois sure looks good up that way. Keep hearing reports of bad crop on back west but that part of Illinois sure looked good. As an old southern boy had not been in a Menards you guys keep bragging about so stopped at Effingham and was impressed.

When we drove back from the East coast on June 12th we saw a lot of unplanted fields in N Ohio and Indiana, but it must of not been a very big area. I'm not sure what they can plant after that, and the fields were still pretty wet. I see corn prices are up a little, but still not very good. Yes we like our Menards, we were in ours today, they do a lot of very successful advertising. We have a Home Depot too, hardly ever go in there.

I think the corn harvest here in southwest Iowa will be very disappointing. We harvested some sweetcorn today. 4 rows. 2 outside rows produced as expected. 2 inside rows had nothing but partially filled nubbins. We are extremely short on rainfall.

I keep hearing about the bad crop in Iowa , just have not been that far west yet. If there is a bad crop over there in the real corn belt prices might pick up for these guys that have the good crop growing. Never can tell until it all plays out. And yes we have Home Depot and Lowes but wife and I were both impress with how clean and neat the Menards we went in was.

Took a mother in law to an appointment today. 90 miles one way. Saw lots of corn, some of the best looking corn I've ever seen.

(quoted from post at 17:49:12 07/19/18) lowes and home depot suck big time

No Lowes near here but have both Menards and Home Depot. My experience has been that Menards may be cleaner but some of thier product line isn't as good a quality as some of the Home Depot . The Menards sales staff leaves a lot to be desired too.

There is a part of northwest Iowa that looks sick from too much rain. My farm happens to be in that area. A few miles west of me and on to the western border, in the part of the state that is more hilly and naturally drained the crops look great. My crops on the high ground look great but in the low ground the crops that aren’t drowned out are sick from sitting in wet soil for too long.

Here in so east minn. we had high wind 3 weeks ago and some of the corn was tipped over. since then it has straitened up but might be difficult harvesting if the stalks are bent. the area along highway 74 between chatfied and st. charles was hit hard in in the valleys. my corn on the ridge was ok but some of the corn in the low areas was rough. the corn looks good and the beans are in great shape. been dry here but got a little rain today. will help the late sweetcorn. the girl from the packing company was by checking the sweet corn she is from southern iowa her dad says its dry down there and they need rain bad.

If you were a contractor who ever worked for Menards you would never step foot in one of their stores.

I don't know why everybody is talking about how good the crops look. Grain companies love that information.

I think you should be wondering where are you going to store it with all of the carryover because of low prices. And mostly, how low do you think corn will get in the $2 range and beans in the $6 range. If beans did get that low, at least we would be selling more bean meal to the Chinese through Smithfield's hogs. I doubt very much that they would put a tariff on their own company.

I won't grace Home Cheapo with my shadow here. If we don't get a rain in the next week we can write the rest of the season off. Haven't had a decent rain in over a month. Sprinkled just so we couldn't cut wheat yesterday or today. Wheat is the only crop any good so far.
