if my ammeter is broken and my mf-35 is running what voltage readings from either post to ground should I get

for a 12 volt system it should be 13.2-14.4 volts if the system is charging and the battery is in
good shape

There should be a small differential voltage across the ammeter, probably in milliamp range, that shows it is working.

check your voltage on our battery with tractor shut off. then start your tractor and see if the voltage is higher. if so then its charging. How hi it reads will depend on how strong your battery is.

An "ideal" (don't exist lol) ammeter would be zero ohms a short circuit so on either terminal there should be near the same as battery voltage. A full charged lead acid 12 volt battery stabilized at rest would read around 12.6 volts but if coupled to a good working charging system at fast RPM it should raise to at least 13 up to 14+ volts subject to temperature, RPM, battery condition and voltage regulation circuitry.

We studied them at Purdue in the late sixties but none has ever been found LOL REGARDLESS they should be pretty low resistance
while the IDEAL volt meter would have INFINITE resistance, none found either.....
