small scale firewood for winter

It's not near the set up Adirondack Case Guy has built , but still useful for gathering a little firewood none the less. As I stand here covered in saw dust, dirt, and sweat it occurs to me how much I disliked cutting, spitting, and hauling firewood as a boy. Now all these years later here I am in mid July darn near enjoying myself! Life is funny.

The scale or amount of equipment you own is pointless unless you are enjoying what you do, you have a nice set up, nothing wrong with that.

I don't normally cut wood in the summer, I like to cut it a year ahead in the fall/spring, but I have been mowing where they logged our plantation, so I am picking up the scrap as I go.

We've come a long way from crosscut saws, axes, mauls and wedges. Oh, and don't forget the buzzsaw.

When I was about 40 years old I thought heating my house with wood was a good idea. I have a nice old antique stove that does the job. Now at 76 it's getting to be a real chore. My house is all electric heat. That was a good idea in the 70's when electricity was real cheap. I don't have my wood for the winter yet. still have time. Stan

My 14 year old helper and I have been making firewood for most of the month. A load a day. Big trailer holds a bit over a cord, and smaller one holds a bit under a cord. We have made 5 smaller loads and 8 big loads as of today. One more load to go to replace what I burned this past season, and then on to increase my reserve. I have 14 cord reserve from last year and hope to increase that to 20 this year.
I may not be blessed with this great help and good health another year. My 14 yro helper is pooping out this 71 yro wood cutter.
