The mice are trying to kill me

Made one pass around the yard with the '56 Ford 860 and finish mower and had smoke pouring out from near the exhaust manifold. Those *deleted* mice built a nest between the exhaust manifold and the gas tank heat shield above (I suspect they are Lannister spies  ). Fortunately I got the burning nest out of there before a serious fire started.

What will they try next?

You know what they say -- if no pics, it must not of really happened. *lol*

How long was the tractor sitting unused before you cranked 'er up?

Sorry, pics were not high on my priority list at that time.

It might have been as much as two weeks.

I had mice store up a good stock of mouse bait in a cylinder of my tractor in just two days between when I installed the head and manifolds and when I came back to it to roll it over and set the valves.

Birds seem to like to make a nest on the manifold of my DC it sure got the heart to beating the first time I seen the smoke rolling out from under the hood lol I used to have Horrible mouse problem as I raise grain,, but I let the wife start feeding the barn cats and build up the heard, I would say I have not even seen one in five years now,, I know there are some still around though as I see a head or tail left laying around at times, the 100 bucks or more spent a month feedingt he barn cats to me is Cheap to pay

Had a 400d case that I was overhauling the engine, but had to
take a break on after I had put the engine together and set the
heads on, but not bolted. Mice, or chipmoncks filled the antler
water jacket of the block and one head with a mixture of dog food
and insulation. The only way in was through the lower water hose.
Must have been 50lbs or dog food in there.

(quoted from post at 11:20:00 07/18/18) What's next?, they like to chew on the wiring, belts and hoses too.
....and they don't just chew the insulation....sometimes chew through/sever the copper wire!

Took my 2017 p.up in for 24month service, dealer put in new cab filter. Claimed mice got in there and made nest from insulation from hood,[two dead baby mice too] but nothing missing there. Do not see any insulation gone that is the type in filter. This p.up was bought new with a foul smell from day one.

I removed the radiator cap on a n ford, top of radiator was full of mice. Musta chewed a hole in the upper
radiator hose. Needless to say it went straight to the scrap yard.

Parked my 1990 Ford 150 in the machine shed only for four days and the mice or rats ate two wires to the injectors and they were under the air intake manifold.
