Tire brand?

Any brand rear tractor tire I should stay away from? Mostly used for bush hogging grass and brush .6 or 8 ply ?

I bought a 13.6-28 tractor tire 3 years ago and the old tire was 6 ply, the new tire was 8 play. It took 3 guys just to put it on the trailer. Let me tell you, there a big difference between 6 ply and 8 ply.. so far no flats. The new tire was is called ranger, never heard of them before.

If your looking for budget off shore bkt makes a decent tire ,not made in China but India but off shore none the less

My tire guy says to steer clear of BKT bias ply, Phillip. Their radials, though, are good value. He says that he has quit selling their bias tractor tires, blown sidewalls were killing him on warranty work. He does sell a lot of their radials and has very few complaints on those. Westlake is the offshore economy bias ply brand that he now recommends. I had never heard of them before but I ordered a pair this week for a tractor that does not do a lot heavy work. I will be able to tell you in a few years if his advice was good!

If you want to buy American made Titan is a value brand (made in former Good Year facility). Firestone (owned by Bridgestone) but made in the USA, they are viewed as a premium tire. There are all kinds of tractor tires out there. For the work you briefly describe I would go with Titan if you have a dealer.

I sold rears for 22 years. Here Firestone is the brand to buy. I sold many different brands for chore tractors, but for heavy field work always Firestone. I do not like Titan, casings were thin and we had lots of corn stubble punctures with them. I actually stopped selling them. We sold lots of Kelly built tires, I don't know if they are around anymore, good heavy casings on them. Farmers Friend was another with a thin casing.

I've had decent luck with Titan - they basically look like an Armstrong copy.
We put a set of Akurets on one of our tractors, and if it sits for long, they flat spot badly. It really beats you up if you try to run in road gear if its sat for any length of time

I put a pair of Galaxies on some twenty years ago, and they started developing cracks in front of the lugs in just two years or so.

I put 2 15.5 x 38 Titans on my M. They are good in the field------- but, if you have a restored tractor that you are going to drive on the 4th of July, I would stay away from them. In 3rd and 4th gear the tractor shimmies back and forth so bad that at first I thought I was having tractor problems. In road gear the tractor bounces up and down like the tire is not round. I like them for the traction and don't do much road driving. Ellis

Titan bought the Armstrong molds, or took over the business, or something like that. They are not "copies," they are the real thing.

Everyone's going to tell you that Firestones are the only choice, but of course everyone is more than happy to tell you how to spend your money. Maybe the best, but definitely the most expensive.

One brand I do know to stay away from is Galaxy. Dang things dry rot while the tire guy is putting them on the tractor practically. I certainly hope grandpa love has better luck with his new ones.

I have a set of those Akurets on. Have trouble with the inside tire lining, allowing the fibers to come through the inside lining, and cause chafing holes in the tube. I would not buy another set of them. Been happy with Firestone on the 1466.
