Jon Deere 4020 hydraulics question

When running a batwing mower behind my 1966 4020 the wings of the mower will raise unexpectedly without anyone touching the remote lever. Where do I start to remedy this?

Hydraulic valve block (SCV) needs to be rebuilt, or at least re-set.

It's either under the hood, or back at the implement couplers, if you have a late model "side console" version.

'66 model JD 4020 scv is under hood. As Bob stated the poppet valves in control valve housing are leaking internally & need to be replaced & adjusted. Adjusting these valves CORRECTLY requires someone with experience in adjusting these complicated valves.

Temp work around...reverse the hoses. The control will be backward from what you're used to, but the wings should stay down
