Bot the Land Pride Cutter

Recently I enquired about buying a newer cutter for mowing CRP. I bot the Land Pride cutter for $2700 loaded on my trailer. Got it home OK and unloaded it with the loader. Hooked it onto the 1850, Wow!! That thing is HEAVY!! Had to go to town and buy hydraulic hoses to make hoses long enough to reach the tractor. The wing cylinder hose has a JD end on it and I couldn't get it loose to change the end to Pioneer, so I got a adapter for the one hose. I have to grease all the pto joints and let it down and check gearboxes and loosen slip clutches and make sure they aren't stuck and then I can try it out. The hitch jack is gone. How heavy of a jack do I need for this? I looked online and they go from 2000#s to 7000#s lift capacity. I don't want to get one too small and have it fail. It's an older machine and needs some patching on it, but it should do what I need to do. Chris

That should work out good for you. I would use at least a #5000 jack. The tube is thicker as those rotary cutters put a lot of side bending load. IF it has the round mount make sure it is attached well. They get bent and really lean the jack even more.

Make sure and adjust the hitch so the front of the cutter is lower than the hack. Olivers have lower drawbars than many other tractors. There is two rods that go from the front hitch to the rear wheel lift. There are nits on that to level the cutter.

I used a standard 2000lb jack and it was a bit too short, and very difficult to turn. A 6x6x6 block of wood cured the too short, but you better have eaten your wheaties for breakfast that morning to turn the crank.

Thats a lot of mower for the price. I buy several jacks per year from agri-supply online to go on used equipment and trailers, part number 87908, weld on square tube, way better than the round tube jacks and a good price. The male and female weld on swivel tubes are also available if you need to be able to turn the jack side ways to miss the PTO shaft or what-not.

Surprised.. Most folks I deal with would just hook a 150hp tractor to it then wonder why the shafts are bent . Taking the slip clutches loose and spinning them a little it just too much work for most folks. Sold a lot of those cutters and overall they are pretty good cutters. Once you get it serviced up should do a good job.
