Cub cadet 149 restore

Greetings
I'm new to the site and am amazed at all the great tractors.i have a late 70s cub cadet 149 garden tractor that still runs great with the Kohler engine. I use it for hauling and pushing snow in the winter. I considered upgrading to a small Kubota with a loader but didn't want to take out a second mortgage to finance it!! So, my question, are there still loaders available for the Cub cadet? Also, I would like to have my tractor restored with basic mechanical repairs and some cosmetic work by someone that does this more than me. Any recommendations for anyone in the Pacific Northwest or California that does this kind of work? I will transport it to them. Thanks!

Paying someone to restore a Cub Cadet mechanically and cosmetically might not be a very sensible thing to do in my opinion. Mind you, maybe money is burning a hole in your pocket but I think most guys here might agree with me.

I had the same thought until I looked at the price of a new tractor. It would be worth it to me. Mind you this is not the mtd Cub cadet sold at home Depot. This is the work house made by international.

To buy a new Cub Cadet compareable to a 149 you would be looking at a XT3 and they start about $4k-$5k and go up from there. Assuming your 149 is already paid for and is complete. A restore would cost quite a bit less then the price mentioned.

149 built in 1971 to 1974
44 to 47 years old, parts readily available.
Many, Many, Many still on the job today.

A new generation tractor such as the XT3, you will be lucky to get 15 years out of it with abundant maintenance schedule and pampered use.

A currently good running and operating 149 would not take much to "restore" which has different meaning to different people.
Fresh, pretty paint only makes it run better in your imagination.

And it being on the west coast, a 149 is kinda rare compared to east of mid USA.

OK . I will be the outsider here. Being 75 years old and in farm tractor/construction equipment dealer for many years. Here is what I see. Forty year old CC you will find someone who tells you he will restore it for say maybe $ 2,500. New pain job rebuild the engine , put on new tires ect. You take it home have a couple of say 60 dollar breakdowns, (bearing goes out or something) then something a little more costly and you decide OK I give up going to go new. You show up at the dealership with your 40 year old cc. We settle on what the new unit will cost you then you ask about the trade. Dealer tells you $ 500.00 you almost choke and say but I have three thousand in it has to be worth more. After the room quiets you either go home mad or the dealer get is and pull it around back to ever never land. Not much demand of 4o year old units. Been there done that many times in the last years. Good luck what ever you decide.

ra, while a Kubota is certainly expensive to buy, cost of ownership is very low. You can use it for 15 years and get 90% of the price of new back. The Kubota will actually move the snow while the cadet will not except with a thrower.
