How big is too big?

The Farmhand F19 loader that came with my Farmall 460 has definitely seen better days, and I planned on replacing it from the beginning. Well, here's hoping... The F19 has lots of sloppy welds, sometimes 3 patches deep! ...And the arms are the [i:10bc46e57d]good[/i:10bc46e57d] part of the loader! The bucket is simply toast!

There's an auction coming up next week with a Great Bend 900 Hi-Master loader, complete with PTO pump, controls, the works. Can't see any sign of repairs. The online pics are higher resolution than I can post, so here's the links:

This loader looks considerably heavier-duty than the F19 I currently have. There's also supposed to be an F11 at the auction, but no pics of it anywhere. Looking at online photos, the F11 doesn't look much stronger than the F19. I'm planning on doing a fair bit of loader work with the 460 and am thinking it might be wise to fit the GB 900. Am I wrong that all that extra steel would stiffen up the tractor frame?

I also plan to add some ballast to the 3 pt. Would appreciate your thoughts, as well as value of the GB 900.

kcm, looks like a lot of iron for that little tractor. Also looks to have been repaired on the side arms below the bucket cyls. If it is wide enough go for it.

Ah, see it now - under that reddish cylinder. Still, is in MUCH better shape than what I have now.

Thanks for the sharp eyes Arlen.

That is a lot of loader for a 460, it's more for an 806 or larger
tractor. You see them on 970 and 1070 cases at 100hp. Expect
front end problems at least, and massive rear weight to counter
the loader weight.

KCM i know that you don't want to hear this.

Farm tractor loaders are not really meant to be used for any serious loader work. That's why so many are in such poor shape. IN fact many loaders on "industrial" tractors are not much better that similar sized farm tractor loaders. Heck you are in MN right? How many farm tractor loaders have done nothing more than move hay and buck snow? And it's the bucking snow that kills em.

If I didn't want to hear it, I wouldn't have asked. ...But you're right, I don't wanna hear it! *lol*

It "is" a bit heavier than what the 460 should likely have mounted on it, and that's keeping in mind that these tractors were means for plowing, cultivation, etc -- [u:4b6d2a2690]not[/u:4b6d2a2690] for "loader work". The F19 loader that's on there now is horrible. I wouldn't trust it for nothing! When I bought the tractor, didn't much care that the loader was on the thing - was just needing the PTO to work. Now I'm wanting to have something for lifting logs onto a small sawmill, clearing out the wooded acreage, etc. Will be lots of (I hope) bucket work dealing with compost, but that's not heavy work. No lifting large hay bales or anything like that. And I haven't needed a loader in Winter since getting the Western snow plow.

I also have the little Gehl skidloader, but a loader on the 460 will reach much higher and has a larger bucket.

So yes, within reason, a fair amount of loader work. Compared to some of you folks, not much work at all - but I want something that will stand the test of time. My main concern with this GB 900 is in the loader, wondering if it's so stiff that it'll transmit a lot of damaging force to the tractor frame. I doubt the GB 900 will flex as much as the Farmhand loaders do.

We don't usually get many decent loaders for sale in this area anymore. Actually, tractors either. Had to go to near Fergus Falls to get the skidloader. One like it up here would cost way too much, cause they just aren't out there.

...So that's my line of thinking.

The f-11 is a lot stronger than what you have unless the
previous owner of that thing was ramming cement walls at 18
miles per hour . I wouldn?t get an f11 though as you have to
crawl over the back of the tractor to get on and a 460 is hard
enough to get on without making it any worse
These are two 1850 pound bales

That's impressive!

Still no pics of an F11 on the auction site, but as I'm already climbing up/down the back end to access tractor, wouldn't make a lot of difference to me. Would rather have a bit of difficulty getting on than have a loader I don't trust!

Eldon, thanks for the pic!! Sure wish it was an 800 at the auction rather than 900.

I "do" have one more thing I'm gonna try. As I already have the controls and homemade mount, there's a tractor salvage place in Thief River Falls that I'll call and see if they have any F19 loader arms and bucket I can get. Fortunately that's on the way to the auction, so will have the trailer with either way.

Appreciate everyone's input!! Thank you.
