Rural wis speed limits

In Wis most of the county and township roads have no posted speed limit sign. A person from out of the area asked what is the speed limit on these roads? The answer they were given was that the speed limit is however fast you want to be going when you hit a deer. Kind of funny but so close to the truth it isn't really funny.

Good one. I once had a deer run into the side of my car, after I saw it coming across and I hit the brakes. That was number 3 for me.

Here in So. Mn. we've got a real problem right now. With all the rain the rivers are flooding all the valleys driving the dear to higher ground. The other night coming home from my sisters 16 miles I saw 8 dear crossing the road. I've got one under my belt about 35 years ago. $1200 damage to the AMC Concord.

All of our roads outside of built up urban areas are assumed to be 80km/50mph unless otherwise posted. Many roads are gravel, and 50 mph is too fast. I have never heard of xnyone having trouble with hitting deer on gravel roads. Hard top roads absolutely ! One of the ? Suicide Terrorist Deer ? jump if front of my pickup in 2015, setting off both air bags. Insurance wrote my truck off cause the stupid air bags cost too much to replace.

In NH it is moose. Hundreds of thousands of cars and trucks hitting moose. Part of it is that at night they are nearly invisible because their fur reflects light so poorly, and then if you go left to avoid it, it will go left. I have had some close calls. One time I saw that I was looking at a black hole so I slowed down, then as I got a little closer the black hole got long skinny legs, so I hit the brakes, and then it turned into a moose.

Be careful out there the roads can be dangerous.

(quoted from post at 14:34:45 07/14/18) all roads are 55 unless posted different

That's not true. Every state establishes a state speed limit for rural, urban, city, and limited access roads. Every state makes the information available for anyone that wants it. Here in Maryland, the rule for unposted rural roads is 50.

In the absence of any other fixed limits or the posting of limits as required or authorized by law, 55 miles per hour.

Here in Mn roads are 55mph unless posted. However you can be ticketed for driving "Too fast for road conditions.". All the back roads and even half the county roads are gravel and narrow. So driving 55 would be a death wish and in many cases a ticketable offense.

My wife hit a deer last week with her new CR-v, 30 mph in town....$1000 damage. She could have hit it at 60 and it still would have cost us 500 bucks....

Indiana county roads are 55 MPH in county unless posted other wise and 30 MPH in town unless posted other wise.
