Got the thing built and we think it will work for setting trusses.

my phone or computer is rotating pictures for some reason.

I hope you are not like me and bend your spikes once in a while. You may have trouble getting on the next time if you do.

How heavy are the trusses you are lifting? Or size?

The J hook is not such a good idea. Yes it will make getting the hook off easy but it also can come unhooked if you happen
the come off the pressure by mistake causing the truss to fall possibly taking the roof crew with it.

J hooks work great in that service. I've set many trusses alone that way. Even using a Farmhand loader on an M and the loader slowly settled. Just make the J pretty deep so the first touch does not unhook it. With my old Famhand setting trusses on a 14 ft wall I'd get it close, climb off and climb the wall and set and nail the first side. Climb down, on the tractor, lift a little, climb up the other side, nail the truss and angle brace. Tractor would self unhook.

Everything went well until we got to the hip double bridge looking truss with some boards already nailed on from the ground and my Kubota L3800 and the hydraulics didn't like it dangling at the end of the pole. Went and got the Bobcat S185 and it didn't know it was making a lift. Looking back I should have used it from the beginning mainly because the tractor was straight gear drive and the Bobcat is much smoother with forward and back. I was thinking my vision would be blocked with ss but it was ok.
All the single trusses were under 200 lbs
