More generator help needed.

I posted a few days ago about needing help with some 6v Pos Ground generators.

Found out my generator without a Tag on my Co-Op E-3 is supposed to be an Autolite Geo-4818A3.

I still don't know if there is a way to Identify my generator as that model or if it matters. Will any 6v regulator work on this 3 brush generator? If so does Yesterdays tractor here offer one or anybody have a Napa # for one? They don't list regulators for Cockshutt here, but I would think one for a 6v gen on something else would work.

I didn't get any responses on matching a regulator for my Delco 1102667 generator that I want to put on my Moline UTU. Does Yesterdays tractor have a regulator to match that?

Also some regulators say they need a "Conversion Kit" when changing from Cut-out. Since most all these tractors had cut-out originally do I need this?

I guess in short - Since many old tractors have had the generators replaced over the years, how to you match a regulator to a generator? Especially if the generator has lost its tag and you don't know for certain what model it is.

Also forgot to ask about Solid State voltage regulators? Anybody try one like the DRM offered by Clover Systems? Sounds like a good idea to me.
But once again, how would you match that if you can't identify the generator?

most old units were low current, so that is not much of a consideration. Third brush means it is inherently current self limiting anyway AND it means it is type-"A". So a VR from Ford 8N tractors should do the job. Most if not all Delcos were also type"A", so same VR should be Ok. Only with big ambulance, fire truck, etc. do you get into current range that you have to be particular..Some Chrysler VRs used diode-like Rectifiers but rare, however, they are ground polarity sensitive..most VRs made today don't care about ground polarity.

Not an expert here, recently went through your problem with my '48 John Deere B, and D. I found that it is
very important that your tractor be wired correctly for the regulator you are using, be it a cutout, a 3
terminal VR, or a 4 terminal VR. There aren't that many different regulators available for the 6 and 12 volt
systems used in agricultural applications in the 40's and 50's.
I have found online several detailed PDF manuals, explaining and illustrating different generator/regulator
combinations from Delco Remy.
I ended up contacting John Brillman, at the Brillman Company, to purchase high quality USA made voltage
regulators for the tractors I was having Issues with, He was a little hard to get a hold of, but he provided
me with the information, and Quality parts to get the charging systems on several of my old Tractors working
perfectly, He really went out of his way to help, you should contact him...Tom
