Another one buys the farm

This time it's me. Lol Well the purchase agreements are signed to buy this farm and sell our house! So now I will finally have a place to store my "stuff" inside and even a shop to work in! It's 58 acres total with about 50 tillable, and fair soil with no rocks too. The house is pretty nice and won't need much but minor fixing and paint. I'm not sure on the size of the barn, but it had 40 cows. The pole shed is 40x60 and the quonset is 32x48. Guess I'll have a busy summer now with moving and such! I won't be milking in the barn, but I'll have to find something to do with it. It sure is a nice building.

Neighbor who liked to work on vehicles of all sorts, bought a place with a milking building. The milking stall is perfect for getting under the vehicle for what ever reason. You have the "Makins" for such if so inclined. If nothing else drive your lawnmower over it so you can clean out the deck in the spring when the grass is wet and clogs up under it.

By the design of the roof on both the barn and small building they were made by Beaty the rafters certaing say they were well made. Go over those roofs nail by nail replacing ones that are poped with the newer rubber gasketed roof screws because the orriginal nails WILL POP ruinning a good barn design.
I don't envy you even my wife would like to find a place like that. Here in Canada it is almost impossible.
The best to you and the family
Wm.

Hi Jon, you found and purchased what most of us dream about owning. Although most of us will never achieve that "dream home property" . We are all HAPPY for you and will share all the nice adventures with you and your family on this property. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Murray in Nova Scotia

Nice looking place, About the same as we bought a couple years ago except we have a 1900s house. If not having any rocks is bothersome can see what we can do about sending you a load, LOL

Up the road from me here in Ohio there is a barn pretty much the same as that large one you just got. If you have animals and square baled hay they work fine. But if not there is ALOT of wasted storage space you cannot access in that upper deck !

Beautiful, beautiful, we envy you, HOWEVER one of the laws of life is the barn will never be big enough.

Nice! Congratulations to you and your wife.

Betting that your grandkids will love spending time there with you guys.

Great looking place, Jon. I do think you should start up the dairy, though, just so we can read your colorful stories of trying to keep the gutter cleaners working at 20 below zero.

Looks like with some work it will make a real nice place. With older equipment it is great to be able to keep it inside. Keep us updated as you get to work on it. Tom

Jon this is Great News ! Very happy for you that you have landed a nice place with good buildings. There are a few of those ? arched truss roof? barns around. Most I know of went up in the late 50?s. Made a real nice dairy barn, with all of that natural light streaming in through the windows. And a real bounce is having the Quonset hut style shed as well as the pole barn, with a modern home. It all looks very nice. I?ll bet the farmer that put this all together was a happy man and the envy of his neighbors.

(quoted from post at 06:25:46 07/11/18) I'm sure the previous owner didn't do well trying to feed tires to the cows.

I dunno, looks like he about had them all fed. Maybe he knows something we don't?

Great place Jon, wonderful barns and sheds. Your new concrete floor in the 40x60 needs floor heat. :)

I noticed all the tires starting to take over and hang around. A good watch dog will control those vermin. Otherwise they will take over the farm. Might put out some tire bait.

Congrats Jon!

We'll give you til the first of the month to get moved and everything in ship shape....LOL

If it were only that easy.

Enjoy the process, and yes, I'm jealous.

Larry

WOW looks like a beautiful place jon, I love all the buildings, plenty of room to keep your vehicales and equipment out of the weather in the winter. you have some work to do getting the yard cleaned up, but nothing you can't handle! NOW I have a question jon, how long will it be before you have all those buildings full?

Great deal Jon. Don't ever look back. What a great place to play as an adult and still make a little dab of money if the cards play out right. Good news for sure - Bob

Lol, the sheds in a couple months, the
barn is more difficult. I'm not sure
what I'll do with it yet.

Jon that will make being off the road even better. You will be able to get into all kinds of trouble now. LOL

Congratulations, Jon. You really deserve a place with good out buildings after years of working outside, Is it a long distance move or close to your present home? Best of luck and get those tractors & combine under roofs and start planning a nice shop. Gary.

The barn, clear the milking equipment and bunks and put another ft. of hay in mow for insulation for easy heat shop, or put an elevator in 1 corner and store a garden tractor collection up there as it should hold at least a half dozen. or basket ball hoops for the grand kids, they could also play volley ball and roller skate there. Laughing here as I'm sure you will find a use only to soon.

Looks like a real nice spread Jon. I can think of 2-3 of those arch truss barns near me they are standing up real well after the years. A sbest i can imagine they are all 1950-60 vintage can't say for sure I'm a 1979 model lol.

jon I have been looking at the dairy barn pics, and a couple of questions, the building looks to be about 50 x 100', is the center aisle the same height as the floors that the cows stood on or is it lower? idea rattling around in my head to maybe put grating on either side (where the slit trenches in the floor are?) the support poles along either side need to be there for building support, I wonder if they are far enough apart to drive in and back your implements in between at an angle?? ceiling height? trying to think of ways to set it up for your needs, (unless your going into the dairy business) then just scratch all this and give bruce a call

No milking! Lol. The floor in the stalls and between is the same
height, but the manger is higher. Im thinking about taking out
the stalls and rear wall of the manger and filling 8n the gutter
then pour concrete from the manger to gutter. It will be slanted
but would work good for pens and could be used for anything. And
that would save knocking out all the manger part. But that will
be a while and I'll likely change my mind several times before
then. Lol

Looks like a great investment. Wikipedia lists Henriette at a population of 71. Does your "new" big barn set east and west on its longest dimension? If so, I think I found it by looking on a satellite view. I know, I've got too much time on my hands !!!

Tractor related - I repaired a rear light on a Farmall SMTA for a friend today. Now back to playing some more music.

Ron

Congratulations. It's great to see a hard worker get ahead. You are very deserving. That's a very nice looking place, and I am happy for you whatever you decide. Good luck and best wishes.
