How to stop geese from eating soybeans plants

Today I found soybean plants on a side hill near my pond all defoliated. Looks like army worms had made a pass. I found all kinds of manure which looks like goose and duck as well as some feathers. So, I assume it is geese that fly in to the water and walk out and eat. I rode around the pond in the grass on my 4 wheeler and could not stir anything up. Nothing on the water. What can scare them away or do them in??????? I am not against killing them if I have to. Neighbor says you can scare them away after a few attempts. They are probably eating either in the early morning or evening. Probably about a 1/4 acre gone. Most of the beans will come back if I can stop the feeding. Thanks.

Most every county considers them agricultural pests. Get a permit and have some hunter friends over for goose dinner. My dad did it like 25 years ago. Check with you local county agent. See what others say on here. Some states say they cannot be harvested. The vultures never complain. Crazy laws.

If you find a way to chase off geese, market it, you have a gold mine.

Similar to damage from deer and muskrats, prevention might cost more than the actual losses. Adjusting the rent with the landlord might be your best and most profitable long term solution.

I know a few years ago they were issuing permits to some farmers that allowed them to kill them. That's the up side. The down side was that they had to leave them lay. So no goose dinner.

Here they (MN DNR) watched the guys with the permits like a hawk Guess if they caught you taking the birds there was a big fine, they revoked the permit and could confiscate both the vehicle (if on was used including tractors) and the firearm. At least that's what the paperwork a friend showed me said. I think they said he could kill 5 a day but they had to be in the field doing crop damage.

According to the MN DNR web site there are still some programs available.

Sounds about right. MN DNR Spends half its budget promoting hunting and fishing and the other half harrassing those that do. Killing geese but heaven forbid you use the animals in any way. Seen way too many fishing contests with similar results. The DNR is paid ( Bribed) to look the othee way.

Sod Buster.

I not sure on kill permits but in VA any animal a game warden confiscates from illegal hunters has to be utilized.Couple years ago warden came by and gave me 5 deer he had taken
if I said I'd use them for food.I skinned 2 called a couple friends to get the others. We were skinning and cutting for awhile.

Yep, I know a couple of "carp cops" here where I live. Most often they don't believe in due process either. They honestly believe that everyone who fishes or hunts is doing something illegal. They the carp cops just has to catch you at it.
