Ford 8N 12V conversion Starter Solenoid?

anyone know of a auto crossover part that will work in this situation? 1952 8N 12V converted, front mount distributor. The starter solenoid is definitely bad, it is cracked completely around the top edge. The top flat of the solonoid can be pushed up and down like its on a spring which i suspect is true that there is a spring inside. id rather go to an auto parts store and get a solenoid instead of ordering one online.

Fist off you cannot have a 1952 8N and have front mount 4 nipple distributor cap because the last of the front mounts where made in early 1950.
That said a 3 wire Ford tractor solenoid can be picked up at most good auto parts stores. The car/truck type solenoid will NOT work on your 8N.
Also if you have an 8N it has 4 forward gears and both brake pedals are on the right

It does have two pedals on right and clutch left. It has a front distributor, and serial number starts with 8n the rest of serial number is hard to read, so tear can’t be nailed down.

Front mount distributor 8N where made form 1948 to early 1950. Some time in April or May of 1950 they switched to the 5 nipple side mount distributor. So you have an early 1948 to 1950 8N

ok i understand about the year and front and side mount distributors. what does that have to do with a crossover part for a starter solenoid?

Without giving you a history lesson on Ford tractors because all 8N's used the same starter solenoid I can say the original part number was 8N11450. That crosses to Balkamp S61055 or Echlin (available at NAPA) ST540.
These are original 6v parts but your 12v tractor will not care.

I has nothing to do you the solenoid but it has a lotto do with many other parts you will need sooner or latter. Like say points or rotor or distributor cap.

By your questions you are new to the tractor hobby. One thing you need to remember for the 1947 to 1964 starter relays is that you GROUND the small terminal to actuate the contacts, unlike automotive and later Ford tractors that you SUPPLY power to the small terminal. Unless of course some previous owner has disabled the original system and ignorant engineered around the neutral safety system.
