custom bush hoggin

The neighbor has about 1+ acres of grass that was tilled up this spring that she would like to be mowed down and kept up over time. Pretty straightforward, level, and clear of debris. I was wondering what would the cost be for custom bush noggin it with my tractor and 6ft rotary mower? I am assuming it would need to be mowed every 1-2 months as needed.

50 to 100.00 an hour. Or a flat fee each time you mow.since it is a neighbor, well cleared and a 'regular' job,a bit less would be appropriate.Or do it for free to get some 'seat time' on your tractor.

In good conditions it would be closer to 50 dollars per hour. 100-120 dollars per hour would be for an unknown field and/or steep terrain. Some charge a per acre fee and I used to have the chart for that put out by a regional magazine but can't put my hands on it.

(quoted from post at 08:41:40 07/10/18) The neighbor has about 1+ acres of grass that was tilled up this spring...

You say it was tilled up, but was it properly prepared and re-seeded? Or was it just chiseled or mold-boarded and left lay?

You might want to check on how smooth that field really is.

I've done some mowing on 3 acres of land that I was told was plowed, and disked. It was rougher than parts of my pastures that get rooted up by feral hogs, took awhile to mow that 3 acres at 1 - 2 mph.

Tilled up and properly seeded, or tilled up and then grew in wild? I'd walk every inch of that land first before I said I would do it and figure in the price of removing any rocks or stumps that need to go before quoting any prices.

I hog for what it would cost the owner to rent the equipment and have it hauled. Gets them the work done for the cost of a rental and I get to run my tractor.

Local guy charges $1.00 per minute,if it took 60 minutes to do it $60.00,sounded like a simple way to figure it to me.

Don't forget to tell them that they pay for any flat tires you may get if its caused from something on their property. Like say a old cultivator sweep your front, or rear tire may "find".

I'm an old softy when neighbors ask me to do jobs like this. I don't charge anything. I tell them I may need a favor sometime in the future. So far I haven't had any favors to ask of them.

An acre isn't very much, probably take you longer to get there than to mow it. Your financial status and free time have more to do with it than anything. I repair stuff for my neighbors and mow usually for free. (this makes my wife mad) Like someone else said, I would mow it for a cherry pie. Ellis

We charge $40 per hour except for neighbors. I always tell them it's a freebie. Good neighbors are nice to have. Of course they usually toss me a few bucks anyway. Tractor time is fun time.

I have one neighbor I charge $100 for a job about that sized, another that I do for free.
The difference is one pops over to shoot the breeze, offers to help with things, throws a few hay bales now and then and sometimes does pot luck supper with us.
The other calls when they need stuff.
