Ford Jubilee starter bendix

I have a ford Jubilee that I broke and split the bendix starter gear. I got the starter out and ordered a new bendix assemby.

but now I am trying to get the two halves of the broken starter bendix gear out of the bell housing so it does not get thrown around in there. I found out its NOT magnetic so my flexible magnet wont help... but I want to get it out of there....Not bad enough that I have to split the tractor but I want to try to get it out. any tricks im all ears!!!

Thanks

Ford made the bell housing so that there is room for the bendex to sit in there and cause little or no problems. You may be able to use one of those grabber finger type tools to grab it and pull it out. Other wise yep you have to split it to get it out

think i only got lucky once, and that was the big washer-retainer. on the other hand, almost every clutch job shows old junk locked in old grease,
laying in bottom of housing.

I agree with you on wanting to get the pieces out, although some guys have run 'em for decades with extra hardware in the clutch housing with no issues.

On the older series, you could remove the steering gear for access from the top, and I'm gonna GUESS that would work with an NAA, as well. 'Course removing the steering gear is about as much work as splitting the tractor!

On the other hand, I can't imagine what the gear would be made of that wouldn't be "magnetic", even if it's made from "powdered iron" it should get friendly with a magnet.

hole saw a 3in hole in the bottom of bell housing then you could weld or bolt that piece back in after you get the junk out

Our Ford 640 has a bendix in
there. Been there for 2 years. Use
the tractor alot ,no issues. I've
been told by folks that almost
every time they split a Ford there
are starter parts in there. I
would leave it!!

I broke off 3 starter drives on my Jubilee. I fished out metal parts from 8
previous broken drives using a magnet. Bought replacement drives from YT.
Jubilee was converted to 12v.

After replacing the old 6v starter with a new 12v starter from YT, I never
sheared off another starter drive.

I'm sure there may be parts from starter drives in bell housing. So far they
have never caused a problem.
