Borrowed my friend's tractor and wouldn't
you know it died on me. Sounded like it ran
out of fuel. I knew it was low but it didnt
seem that liw. I put 5 or 6 gals in the
tank. No go.
I pulled the filter off and see this brown,
nasty stuff.
Is it diesel fuel algae?
I know there is algaecide you can put in .
What else do I need to do?
Thanks.

It was brought up the other day on here that it's NOT "algae" because algae needs light to grow, and it's generally pretty dark in fuel tanks!

If you look at the info on Power Service's site, they state "This dual-phased (effective in both diesel fuel and water) biocide kills microbes in fuel, including bacteria and fungus.". (FWIW!)
Bio Kleen

I have always known bio fuel algae to be black silly putty looking stuff. That could be another form of it i just have not seen that type.

Yes that is what most call algae.
It is really a bug.

Buy a case of filters; add some biocide to the fuel; and run the fuel down low in the tank.
For 5 gallons I would just drain the tank and throw it away.
That way you can get the water out also.

Then fill the tank and add biocide in a shock treatment amount.
Be prepared to change filters as it kills the bug and sends it out the tank to the filter.
